After reading many of the reviews posted here I realized most buyers intended to purchase a grill and DON'T KNOW the differrence between a grill and a smoker. Smokers cook at low temperatures for extended periods. I bought this smoker at my local Wally World and love it!. Just smoked 2 medium chikens for 6 hrs at a average 150-160 degree temperature. In the last hour I increased the bricket-charcoals and wood to reach the reccomended 180 temp for well cooked poultry. THIS SMOKER PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY THE WHOLE TIME. I did follow the reccomendation made of drilling holes in the bottom of the charcoal pan and worked great, THANK YOU FOR THE HEADS UP!. LOVE THE DUAL DOORS, THIS MAKES IT EXTREMLEY EASY TO LOAD AND UNLOAD FULE/CHIPS ETC. Also the sliding grates work great. Having always used a dome style smoker I do feel like I did an awesome upgrade. I also think that compared to more expensive smokers it was a wise move. I will use this smoker for years to come. LOOKING FORWARD TO THANKSGIVING DAY FOR A SMOKED HAM AND THE TRADITIONAL BIRD ! ! IF YOU ARE UNDECIDED WHAT TO GET, STOP AND GET THIS BEFORE THEY ARE GONE. good luck....
It was very easy to assemble and to use! We are very happy with it.
the price was fantastic, assembly was simple. it seems to be perfectly designed and engineered. seems sturdy and yet lightweight.
I have been using a dome top smoker for years,Wanted to upgrade. I like the twin door set up on this one, Makes it real easy to load fuel and add water. I did not have the problems other said they had with keeping the temp up, It maintained 200degrees with out a hitch. Some of you need to remember, It's a smoker, not a grill. Low and slow is the way to go..
I did my research before purchasing this smoker. I knew that people received them dinged up, doors not sealing, etc., etc... So I wasn't holding my breath when I received mine. When I purchased the smoker, I purchased a gasket kit from an outside vendor **bbqgaskets (dot) com** for $40 as they sell kits pre-made for the most common smokers. I went with the non-self adhesive one so I could use the left over silicone to seal around the temp gauge and plaque on the front. Went to store to purchase a wok grill topper for the fire basket. And ordered a new thermostat to install since everyone complained the factory one was off. Grill arrived and the box was not damaged. Pulled grill out of box and the top was dinged but not much and who cares since it just sits outside, gets dirty and filled with smoke (when was the last time you entered your grill into a beauty contest?). Did see that it was thin metal but again.. $80... not expecting 10ga steel or anything. Installed my gaskets on the door to seal them (yet another complaint I read about) and drilled the door and installed my new thermostat. Sealed around both factory and new thermostat and "Brinkman" plaque. Let sit for 24 hrs then went through the curing process. Within the first 3 days I smoked a beer can chicken, 2 racks of ribs and a 14 lb brisket. I also used a wireless thermometer to gauge internal temp at the racks and meat temp (highly recommend that) and the factory gauge was easily 40 degrees off. But w/ the wok topper for the fire instead of the bowl I didn't have a problem with holding temperature. Bottom line... If you are looking for something affordable and not the Taj Mahal of smokers then with the added improvements, this will be a good smoker to start with. And it is small enough that it could be easily portable for camping and such.
I love the way that i can tend the fire with this model. With 2 doors, 1 for the meat and the other for the fire and water, keeping the "smoke on" is easy. The air vents in the top and bottom also allows for good control of the heat. Make sure to spray the inside with cooking spray, as reccomended, to season and rust proof the interior. I also got a cover for it to keep it out of the weather.
The thermostat did not work. All vents open to make it hotter but never got hotter even with wood chips. It was an all day project and into the night. I added half a bag of charcoal . When evening came I ended up placing in the oven for an hour to complete the cooking process. Very disappointing. Only good thing was it was cheap. I purchased another thermometer but it never heated to desired temperature.
I was appalled. there were so many dents, and I believe this will probably only last one season. I am going to cure it tomorrow. The moral of the story is you get what you pay for, but I'm disappointed with walmart for sending a smoker all beat up
smoker was dented in the original shipping carton. there were parts missing for the assembley, and I had to buy nuts, bolts, etc. at the hardware store
Ordered the smoker for my daughter who lives in a different state than my wife and I. When they received the smoker they unpackaged it and discarded the packaging. My wife and I arrived two days later which I commenced assembling the smoker. Upon inspection of the smoker box I found that the box upper left corner had been smashed in. Now the smoker would probably fine but if I spend money on a product I expect that product to be in perfect o near perfect condition and this is not the case.
