Very quiet! I had to turn everything off to make sure it was on!
This is a nice exhaust fan. I purchased it for a small bathroom near bedrooms so I wanted a very quite fan. This one fits the bill. Just had it installed so I do not yet know how good it is for pulling out shower steam but so far I am very happy and it looks very nice.
It's a nice looking fan but I could not keep it. I had a retrofit application, and the fan did not work due to the following reasons: 1) The fan needs to be next to a joist and my ceiling hole was not next to the joist. I would have needed to make a wooden extension from the joist which is not easy without attic access. 2) Only one side can be attached to the joist so the exhaust duct can only enter from one side. In my installation the duct was coming from the other direction. Adding a duct extension form one side to the other without adding a significant bend is not easy without attic access. I don't know about the noise level because I did not install it. I did find a Panasonic fan that could be install in either direction and could be away from the joist. It's a good product but not as quiet as advertised. This is actually louder than my other one upstairs which is rated as louder.
I purchased four Broan fans last month and they were installed recently. Two of the fans were the AE50, 50 cfm and .5 sone. The other two fans were 80 cfm, 1.5 sone. The AE50 are much louder than the larger fans which a higher sone. In addition, it sounds as if there is a rattle in the fan sound of the AE50. I have contacted Broan and they asked that I provide information from the fan itself as well as removing the fan to test it. Broan said they could replace the blower if it was defective. I would have to pay someone to do this for me so I won't be moving forward with their offer. Just a caution to anyone looking to purchase this fan, that it doesn't seem to be as quiet as advertised.
