Having gone through 2 vertical electric smokers in the last 3 years, this is built to last, as the heating element is fully covered; ensuring its durability! Only used once, but made great smoked chicken wings and pork shoulder. Temperature was very controlable, as this is a Natural Gas unit!
Easy to follow instructions. We had great success the first time. Little internet research on controlling temperature and following the instruction manual.
Well made smoker. The heat is easily controlled although the thermometer on the door is not very accurate. I would recommend a dual Probe digital thermometer be used - one probe inserted into the meat and the other probe sitting on a rack to monitor the actual temperature in the smoker. I'm very satisfied with the smoker and the smoked meat is a big hit with all the family members and friends.
We really like this smoker. Easy to set-up and easy to use. I only wish the bottom vents were adjustables; however, I assume they are not because I have the natural gas unit. Low maintenance and it burns about 1 cup of wood per hour and the water needs filling after about 2 hours. Temperature has been relaticely easy to control. Cheers!
Very good quality. I've only used once to smoke some chicken wings. Turned out great! Looking forward to more smoking!
I'm writing this review not because I think the smoker is wonderful, I haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it is. I'm writing because I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your quick response when we contacted you about the issue I had. We received the smoker and unboxed it getting ready to put it together when I noticed 2 fairly large dings in the corner of the body of the smoker. Your company was contacted and you immediately sent us another smoker without charge. We packed up the original smoker and sent it back with no freight charge. We then put the new smoker together and it looks beautiful. I am waiting for the weather to warm up a little and for it to stop raining so we can put it to work. Thanks again for all your help and quick response.
Ok, so after using this smoker for a little over a year now, I feel I can give an helpful review. Like's Last week it was below zero out side and we were eating smoked ribs, perfectly cooked. Yea for double wall Make in the USA, NICE!!!! heats up fast enough, and can be turned down, low enough, YEA water tray lasts for the whole cook does not get the deck hot at all The fold out shelf is soo useful, I did not think it would be, but I was wrong possible improvements a temp control and or timer would be really nice My family has all had food from this smoker, and all agree it is as good as the commercial smoker I had before. I would and have recomended this smoker to all my friends and family No fuss no muss, just smoking year round. Wind, extreme cold, rain, snow, no issue, no problem. There is something special about bbq when it is snowing and cold. Keep up the good work Mr. and Ms. Broil King the bbq guys did fast shipping, it got dented, and the bbq guys were willing to work with me, but it is just cosmetic and I have not been sorry at all about the purchase or the dent,
I bought this smoker in June of 2023. Since then I've put about 3000 dollars worth of meat and other items through this thing. I do love the smoker. It holds temp well (even with the leaky gaskets) and small adjustments are all that's needed to maintain. The coating on the outside has held up great. There is ample square footage as well compared to some smokers but there are some draw backs. The first month of use the handle on the burner box melted off and was laying on the ground. The seals leak pretty back now and I think it's because the unit has a slight twist in it since shipped and now they've just worn through in those spots (still holds temp good though). The rib rack is useless because a rack of ribs is bigger then the unit is deep. 12.6 inches deep and 15 inches wide so a rack of ribs have to go in on an angle. I had to move the water tray out of the burn box to make room for adding a bigger volume of charcoal with the wood chip tray being above it. Refilling the charcoal while running the smoker is a really big pain in the you know what. Moving the water tray out of the burn box helps when refilling that but does require the opening of the upper door and causes heat loss. Burn box is just way to small for all those items. Make it 20 inch x 20 inch and another 6 inches taller in the burn box. Also give it slightly bigger wheels.
So i've had this product for about 3 months and have used it a lot, once a week if not more. I'm not impressed with it. The temperature is either too low or too high, very inconsistent. It burns through wood chips extremely quickly. less than 3 hours out of a firebowl. i feel like i have to constantly keep my eye on this thing. its difficult to maintain lower temperatures around 225. it works very well in the 250-275 range. but my main problem is i find myself constantly checking on it. i wouldn't buy it again. temperature is just too fickle and erratic. it does cook pretty well, i haven't turned a bad meal out yet from it...but its far from set it and forget it.
When the smoker arrived, there were no latches on the doors. I question quality control when the shelves and the parts for the stand are shipped inside the smoker. The doors were installed on the unit, but no one noticed that latches were not installed to keep the doors shut. Broil King did ship latches out for me to install. As with many other reviews saying about not being able to get a low temperature for smoking, my smoker is no different. It will not go below 325deg at the lowest setting. I called Broil King customer service twice and was told that the smoker is designed to only go down to 300deg on its lowest setting, even though the manual that comes with the smoker states on page 8 "For best results try to maintain a temperature of 200deg to 300deg" which this smoker is not capable of doing. I emailed Broil King several times trying to get recommendations on how get a lower temp and did not get a single response. Now I am stuck with a so-called smoker that is useless for smoking meats. I do not recommend buying and wasting money on this smoker; look for a different brand.
