I have been trying to use a sewing machine for years. Not being an experienced sewer I shied away from high-end models, getting hand-me-downs or the cheap "learn-to-sew" models. I could never sew as much as one stitch, though I followed all the guided I could find. I decided to buy a new, somewhat high-end machine. $200 was more than I'd been hoping to spend (especially since I was considering myself inept at sewing) and all the buttons on this machine seemed to indicate it was for experienced sewers, which was a bit intimidating, but I am so glad I bought it! After I set up the machine (using the incredibly simple wordless instruction sheet) I completed a line of stitches (is that just a "stitch"?) for the first time ever. I almost cried I was so happy (I'd had a LOT of failures before!). I love this machine has such a slow speed setting as well (which can be adjusted to go faster). For beginners the faster-than-the-eye movement of the needle of most machines can be very intimidating. The slow setting let me get a feel for how the machine is handling overall. I've only had the machine for a day so I don't really have a comment on its durability (I with there was a NA button) and I have not tried out all the features (again I would honestly rank that as NA) but I am glad they are there - if the machine is durable I feel this is the sewing machine I could use for my entire life.
You can't go wrong with this product for sewing ability and price. I purchaed this machine the last of January 2011. I ve had a Brother Emboidery machine for many years. It has served me well. I needed another machine so I knew it would be another Brother. I have used this machine for a few weeks and very pleased with it. The one thing that could make it better is if it had the automatic thread cutter and or the chime to let me know my thread in the bobbin is running out. But no biggy. You could not go wrong with this machine. It sews fantastic and easy to operate. Instructions are very good. For Christmas, my grand daughter received the one that had 70 stitches. A very good machine for the money. She says it reminds her of the one she used when she was little and sewed on mine. I am sure she will have it for a long time.
I was very satisfied with the machine especially given the price. It is quite, is very easy to use even for someone like me who has never used anything but a standard sewing machine. It has done beautifully on several projects. Can't wait to need to use it again.
I am a beginner sewer and used to own a Singer Simple 23-Stitch Sewing Machine 2263 and this one is so much better. You get much more for your money than you did with the Singer. My favorite things about the machine are: - Adjustable foot pedal speed. I can slow it down when doing detailed work and then turn it up for the long straight stitches. - Fast loading drop-in bobbin. I used to spend a good 3 mintues trying to get my bobbin set in my old machine and then get it to come up... this takes a whole 3 seconds. I no longer cringe when I need to change thread. - The needle always stops down in the fabric - this saves me lots of time when turning corners. I never have to manually adjust where the needle needs to be. There is also a button to bring the needle back up to the top to remove the fabric. - The machine is so quiet. My old machine would shake my table and sound like it was working as hard as it could.... this one just glides along even at the fastest stitch speeds. - The monogramming options are very small, but I'm still excited to use them. The overall size of the monogram is probably less than an inch tall, but for this price, that is a good deal. It is easy to learn and easy to do. After working with this machine, I've learned that a beginner sewer should never use a basic machine (especially Singer). If I would have really started on this, I would be much further along in my skills and wouldn't have spent so much time learning how to get my old machine just up and running and to get the foot pedal to move at a constant speed.
I love this machine, I am having so much fun with it. The price was great. I am so glad that I purchased it.
I absolutely love this machine. I had it for several years now. The only thing that has failed me is the automatic needle threader. I just purchased a replacement part for that. I have quilted on it, used many designer stiches ,have made many quilts and projects with it. Its still going strong amd I would not part with it!
When I first became interested in quilting I assumed I would need a pricey machine with a gazillion features. A gal from Bible study offered to teach me and before long I made my first quilt (and many more!) on this awesome little machine. I really thought a machine for such a low price would be "cheaply" built, but to my surprise I am able to sew many things I never dreamed of. The SQ-9000 in strong, powerful, and reliable -- not to mention versatile as well! Someday I will buy a more advanced sewing machine from Brother, but til that day I will be happy using this powerhouse of a machine.
I ended up returning this sewing machine because it was so hard to see (the light on the machine is not very bright) and the monogram letters are too tiny. I also had some issues with the bobbin and keeping the needle threaded. I did like all the stitches on the machine. There were some really pretty ones and it came with so many presser feet. I liked that it came with a DVD that explained how to set up the machine. The extension table is a nice feature and it was very easy to change the stitches....just a touch of a couple of buttons. I had mixed emotions about it but I decided I had to return it.
This machine sucks! Thread jams in it ALL the time, cant get more then 5 stitches in and it jams up. Ive adjusted the tension to all different tensions, etc. Awful! The different design options are nice though they are only 1 size which is disappointing.
If you are an everyday sewer DO NOT BUY. Cheaply made , very light weight ( which makes it bounce if you sew to fast) Legs on table buckle. I had this machine for about 5 months and now it will not even sew trough 4 layers of quilt weight fabric , which you need to do if you make quilts (at the seams) I have to pull the fabric just so it could feed. I have been through so many sewing machines purchased from wal mart , all the money I have spent , I could of affored a Bernina instead. So I guess lesson learned , now saving for a Bernina .
