I haven't tried the fancy stitches yet, but I've used it a lot for straight sewing and it works fantastic. I can't wait to try the embroidery stitches and I see it also does printing (letters of the alphabet). Will try those features soon.
It is an easy machine to handle, it is important to watch the DVD and read the instruction manual to discover the range of things that can be done regarding sewing. I loved.
I bought this for my granddaughters 12th birthday and had it shipped so I have not used it myself. She was very excited to have her own and with so many more stitches than the one she had to share with her older cousin! MY FIRST MACHINE WAS A BROTHER AND LOVED IT! I worked at a fabric store for years and would always recommend them over a Singer any day
My 15+ yrs. old Brother CS-8150 had just died on me, I researched many Brother models and even other brands, Brother Customer Service recommended this and two other models as a similar model as a replacement, and oh boy have they been right. I love the DVD to watch closely a few tricks, especially the threading system, which is kind of tricky until you get used to it. It took me only a few minutes, and I got it. I am still practicing with a fat quarter to see all the different stitches, and so far I love what I see. My favorite feature is using the machine without a foot pedal, that is very convenient. The machine comes with a huge selection of different sewing feet, plus my quilt foot, walking foot and freehand quilt foot from the old machine fit, which is another plus. The machine is fairly light and so far has everything I expected. I am not a huge fan of the hard plastic cover, but it will do the job for now until I find another storage case, that also takes care of all the accessories and attachments. Something like a small toolbox will do it. I am happy.
Absolutely love it. The machine is wonderful, quiet, and has so many patterns in the stitches, it will take me a long time to try them all. Accessories were great, I'm impressed with how many feed dogs were included. Couldn't have made a better choice.
100% satisfaction on every level! Supreme buy at the right time Winner choice! Just loving this sewing machine. Highly recommended for detail sewing, design, and alternations!
It's everything I expect I turned it on to in sure all parts move but I haven't gotten to actually use it yet. After watching the DVD I was even more excited just by all that the machine is capable of doing. God willing this weekend I'm going to fire her up and dive right in. First sewing machine can't wait to witness what all it can do.
I was afraid of the whole idea of a "computerized" sewing machine. I grew up in home ec classes where there was no such thing as a computer being anywhere other than a library resource and on a huge desk. But this machine actually wasnt as intimating as I thought it would be....everything is with picture cues to help the process....even the way to thread the machine and the bobbin down to how to select the stitch....the machine helped be successful with a donation of 15 personalized surgical caps to a medical location in my location. I am satisfied with that alone and still look forward to many other creations. It came with a DVD instruction but I do not own a DVD player, therefore, I truly am grateful of the success and satisfied with Brother By my Side.
I haven't used this machine too much yet, just testing it out, but it has beautiful stitches. It' s nice and lightweight, comes with a extension table and plastic machine cover. It is easy to thread and has a needle threader, that is a little tricky, so be sure to watch the video that comes with the machine. It will be good for my purposes in crafting nothing too heavy duty. The only thing I don't really care for is the sideways thread holder, I can't put the cover on with the thread on the machine. The thread gets caught on the little slit on the spool if you don't use a bigger spool cap. It's not a big deal though, but something to think about when buying a machine. The machine comes with a lot of little extras. So all in all I would recommend this machine for beginner and intermediate sewing.
I love it. It seems quieter than my other brother CS 6000i. Now it's just getting used to it. Don't like the bobbin winder as much as the other one. That on that one you could fill the bobbin without unthreatening the machine. Overall it's a great machine.
