I've owned the RST531HD sewing machine for 6 months and used it to make masks, pillowcases, a denim bag, and a couch cover. Works great for different fabric thicknesses! Just make sure to use the right needle (16 or 18 for denim, 11 to 14 for cotton or polycotton blends) and test the tension for different cloth. I bought Organ brand needles in bulk. The automatic needle threader is great. Easy to use as a new machine. Someone posted the DVD instructions on YouTube.
Good machine for the price. I purchased this Brother as a back up for my Babylock when it needs service. I was pleasingly surprised with the quality of this machine. It is quieter than expected and is capable of doing more than expected. It has many similarities of my other machine, threads same way, bobbin loads the same. It doesn't self thread, as other machine, but is next to self threading. Have had and only used for short time, but am pleased with it. I was a little concerned about being refurbished, but have laid that to rest as it came exactly as pictured with everything included as stated. I would recommend this for beginners and anyone who wants a good, easy to use machine. It seems to be strong and tough and heavy duty as stated! I would purchase this again and would recommend it.
I bought this machine because the machine I have doesn't sew jeans well, and I used it the day I got it and it went through my husband's jeans like they were butter. Love it!
Purchased as a gift for my mothers who is housebound due to the pandemic. She absolutely loves it. I appreciate that it includes everything she needed to get started. And, the included dvd walked her through setting up the machine which is a definite plus!
Wow! I had the Brother 17 stitch machine before and it was fine for how little I used it to occasionally make costumes or decorative items for my kids. When I started making masks, my old machine died after about 75 and the repairman said it was not worth fixing. The RST531HD was the first machine in my price range that came back in stock at Walmart and so I grabbed it. I had no idea that sewing could be so smooth and easy. The stitches flow along and I enjoy sewing so much more now. It can handle multiple layers of fabric when making masks and it is easy to set up and go. Stuff that choked my old machine comes out smoothly on this one. I would recommend this machine for a beginner or someone who sews on a regular basis.

This is a Great beat me up machine. I've thrown a lot at it with Canvas, (own a sewing Co.), and keeps asking for more. Throw the right needles in it, and it purrs like a kitten for sure. I highly recommend this as a Work horse for hard working materials.

shipped to a Walmart store and picked up, when I got home I saw that the needle was broken and so was the automatic needle threader. I usually sew on my brother cs6000i but it stopped functioning and thought this was a good deal but it seems I have been spoiled on the cs6000i, this reverse function one annoys me but the price was good for a remanufactured machine. I might return this.
Haven't had a chance to use it much as the purchase came with no accessories except for one bobbin and one needle. I'm following the video on You Tube to learn how to use the machine step by step. Attractive machine, sturdy, sounds good. Having some trouble using the automatic threader, it doesn't always catch the thread to pull through the eye of the needle, frustrating! Brother is sending me the accessories and Ill be able to fully evaluate the machine.
