Bought this printer for an older parent to replace another Brother printer that died. Fairly simple to install for most people. My dad at 87 would not have been able to do it. I do wish they still included a manual with the product instead of having to go online to access it.
This is a really nice printer. We bought it for our home but we use it a lot. Very satisfied with the print quality, easy set up and the convenience of printing from a desktop, laptop and cell phone. I would definitely recommend this printer.
It took me awhile to set up the printer, whether to use the supplied setup disc or from the front panel. But it works great and can print from my smartphone.
I bought this printer about two weeks ago. This is my first Brother printer; most of my previous printers were Canon Pixma, in about the same price range. Just from the "touch & feel" perspective, there is no comparison - Canon is much better built, Brother is flimsy and feels cheap. Print quality is good and comparable. Installation is easy for both, Canon does a lot of work by itself, but calibration of printer cartridges is also more elaborate, and therefore, time consuming. If you need just a printer to print 0-5 pages a day, both b&w and color, go with the cheaper printer, save money. If you are going to print lots of photos, and Christmas photos for holiday cards, you might be better off purchasing a Canon, but it also takes 5 cartridges as opposed to 4 for Brother.
purchased for wi fi capabilities-DO NOT rely on that-get a USB cable before you throw it out the window. It was ALWAYS offline-and I live in city limits good wi fi. And to hook up the USB cable you have to lift up the top and run it around inside there so buy at least a 6-10' cord.I had a brother that lasted for 20 years this one will be lucky to get 1 year-so disappointed
Glad I bought it. Unfortunately, my Wi-Fi won't let it print, even thought both machines have accepted each other's existence. I think it's a Comcast thing.
Bought for elderly parents, they were unable to set it up themselves. In order to do that you are forced to use the VERY TINY control panel on the front of the unit and download the software online if your computer lacks a DVD drive. Entering the WIFI information took a few tries due to "fat fingers" trying to enter the id and password on that TINY screen. In order to make it easier for them to use it we ended up taking a photo of that VERY TINY control panel and printing out an enlargement so they can know what to press without using a magnifying glass. The test copy and webpage printed quickly and the quality was good. They don't fax so we skipped setting that up. An easy to use instruction manual would have been much appreciated!
I rarely use my printer, and usually just black ink with minimal color use. But I need to replace the cartridges much more often than I feel I should. I also have recently had to remove it from my pc, then upload it again with the installation disc each time I used it, with maybe two weeks of non-use in between. This has happened multiple times over the last several months.
I paid for a new printer and got one that used and badly damaged with parts missing. Ink was missing. Cartridges provided were nearly empty. It's impossible to think that anyone serious about doing business would send out equipment like this and expect it to be accepted as new. This was a bad joke.
I was unable to make this printer work. When I could finally coax it to print a page the screen would say "Paper Jam, Remove Paper Tray", but there was no paper jam. I started over wiith the same results, everytime it printed a page or 2, it cried paper jam. I finally packed it up and took it back to Sams Club. Sorry Sam. This is my last Brother Product.
