[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used this for years. It penetrates well and last a number of years.
New deck built, with high quality pine for framing, western redwood posts, cedar for the flooring. I used Australian Timber Oil, and couldn't believe how easily it went on. We all know that no two pieces of lumber are the same. So I expected some deviations on how the wood would take the stain. I am old fashion so I used a good brush, waited two weeks, buffed the treated wood with steel wool, and applied a second coat. It looks like a million bucks. I would highly recommend this product. By the way, I'm near San Antonio with lots of sun and 100 plus degree days.
I purchased the Cabot Australian Timber Oil a good while back and have been meaning to post my review. We got our Cypress fence redone after a hurricane destroyed the other one. After allowing time for the treated wood to dry I wanted to seal it with something that would last. After reviewing several products as well as speaking to a company rep, I decided to apply Cabot's Australian Timber Oil. The Rep told me that Timber Oil was UV/Mold&Mildew/Weather resistant (what it says in the cab is Accurate). I wanted to give the fence a natural look without any tinting , that why I went with the Neutral. When the application was completed, We couldn't be happier!!!! It's exactly what we were wanting to achieve and the fence is gorgeous and holding strong. It's been a few of years and it looks like it did when We applied the Timber Oil in 2020.
Recently bought a house with a front deck that went 3 years without any treatment. Used a pressure washer and wood cleaner for prep. It's pretty dry where we live (Wyoming) so I let the deck dry for only 24hrs. Used an applicator and a good brush for the tight spots. Clean up was super simple with mineral spirits. The results where outstanding!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Loved the way it waS absorbed. The lighter color it went on as was the prefered color. Beautiful rich color though
Trying Cabots Timber Oil for the first time on a 3 year old cedar deck. This product was recommend by our local paint store. So far so good. Will check back next season for a follow up review. Original stain, applied when wood was new, has been removed and boards have been cleaned and sanded. Tried three colors and found one we liked. The first is boards in the corner are treated with Natural, then Mahogany Flame and last, Jarrah Brown.
I have attached some photos of my deck for your review. The deck was installed last spring , it is cedar Australian timber oil was applied. After one Wisconsin winter this is the way it looks, needless to say I'm very disappointed. I'm hoping for some advice on how to correct the problem. I have been a user of Cabot products for over 50 years and I must say this is not what I've come to expect
Bought this weekend to apply to a new deck installed late spring. Used a pad applicator for the first coat and every single spot I lifted the applicator left a dark mark, and other dark sections. Some sections barely took any color and stayed light. The Honey Teak is about 10 shades darker than the sample on pine. The finish is almost a like a urethane you would see on a wooden bartop from the 80's. Upon applying a second coat, there were areas the stain wasn't able to soak in and let what looks like droplets. It's absolutely horrible. Bob Vila's site promoted this as the best option for a new deck and I couldn't be any more disappointed.
We bought this product in May 2023 and applied it to brand new red cedar dock boards. The dock boards had been received a couple of weeks earlier and were stored in a storage container along with furniture, textiles and paper products. A desiccant was used to remove humidity from inside the container. On a beautiful, warm and sunny May weekend, we applied this product to the top and lower sides of the dock boards over the course of a couple of days. When we were done the boards looked great. Beautiful. However, fast forward to mid-September 2023 when it was time to remove the dock boards and dock, we could see fading and blotching that made the stain look uneven and faded on the top of the boards. In some spots it looked like raw wood. The bottom sides looked great, no fading or blotching had occurred. It appears this product does not hold up when exposed to the sun. We plan to expand the dock and will be using red cedar dock boards again. So we will have 36 dock board panels that need to be redone and a number of new panels to be stained. I do not believe we will be using this product again. This product is not worth the money and aggravation.
Applied product exactly as directions. This product was put on my 3000 square foot deck and lasted less than 1 year in my michigan environment. Applied in late summer and by late spring the entire deck stain pealed. Like the oil didn't even penetrate. Stay away
