Built in light is an awesome feature for close up work!
Bought this for my fiance's Rebel T2i. This prime lens completely transformed the camera, when compared to the stock kit zoom lens! Excellent sharpness on f5 and above, and provides a beautiful bokah on all aperture settings. Great portrait lens too. Thr Macro led lighting is helpful, and sports a neutral to cool color temperature. Auto focus hunts a lot on the T2i. The manual focus feature also takes a lot of getting used to (and a tripod/monopod helps on fast apertures). The CA on f2.8 is very noticeable however. It would be great to get automatic compensation for CA and vignetting at the camera level, with a firmware update.
I'm still learning to use this lens, and I've never had a macro lens before, but this has been a really fun experience. I really like the F/2.8 aperture on this lens and it works well for portrait type photos as well as macro. The adjustable macro ring light is an awesome feature - two brightness settings, and you can light one side or the other, which comes in really handy - see coin pic. The lens does have an incredibly narrow depth of field up close and stopped down to F/2.8. As you can see in the newsprint pic, even a slight curve in a pretty flat surface can make a difference in focus - but also can make for some cool effects. I was also able to freeze the bubbles in a column of water flowing from a faucet at a high shutter speed pretty well with this lens. Lately I've been trying to get a few pictures of snowflakes - challenging but really fun. I absolutely love this lens. It's opened up a whole new world of photo opportunities for me. I can't wait to try insect pics in the Spring. This is a fantastic lens for the price - stabilized STM lens with the ring light built in, and F/2.8 - this has it all! Also comes with a screw on lens hood for when you are not using the ring light. Build quality seems great as well. Just a sweet lens overall.
I Absolutey love this macro lens. I can't stop taking photos
Wow! this is my first macro lens and I took it to shoot detail shots of the rings at yesterday's wedding. I was super pleased and the bride was happy too. Having this lens helped to create a really nice image for my first time using it in a professional setting. Still practicing and learning.
I'm back to “real” photography only recently and am working up the learning curve. This lens does everything I hoped it would. The macro photo's I've been taking are quite good. For now, this is the lens I'm carrying with me for catching detail and practicing settings. I like it a lot.
I just received this lens yesterday and have taken a bunch with it so far. It is fantastic. The level of detail and vibrance of the photos are amazing. Well worth the price!
After using this lens for only a couple of weeks (100 + photos) for wide-angle landscape, nature macro, and some portraits, it suits my less than super-critical eye. That is not to say a super-critical eye would not appreciate this lens. I'm impressed with the (56mm on crop sensor) for portraits, although I have to say that the Canon EF-S 24mm STM (essentially 38mm) may become my favorite.
I've had this lens for a couple of days, and I am amazed every time I use it! This lens opens up another universe in our own neighborhoods. Details of insects, spiders, and flowers is very sharp, with great color resolution. I don't know all the technical specifications of this lens; I'll leave that up to the professionals to write about. What I do know is that these images are superb. This is the first macro lens I've owned, and it's just as fun as I imagined. I cannot wait to see what future endeavors and worlds I will see through this lens. If you want an affordable macro lens, this one works great on the 80D. Once again, Canon hits it out of the park!
Received my new macro lens today and I absolutely love it.
