Building on the success of the EOS R series of cameras and leveraging advancements in technology that have come along since, the EOS R3 combines some of the best of both the EOS R5 and EOS-1D X Mark III cameras to provide a robust, high-performance camera.* The EOS R3 is the first “3” series camera since the popular EOS-3 film camera launched in 1998. At the heart of the EOS R3 is a Canon developed 24.1 megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor which combines with the DIGIC X processor to deliver a higher speed readout, allowing for continuous blackout-free shooting** at up to 30 fps in electronic (silent) shutter mode with minimum rolling distortion. The combination also increases the high sensitivity light capturing efficiency of a native ISO of 102400 for still images. The improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with 1,053 AF Points features evolved EOS iTR tracking for subjects such as people, animals, as well as select cars and motorcycles*** down to EV -7.5. The EOS R3 also allows the user multiple ways of controlling AF using Eye Control AF, Smart Controller with home position and the classic multi-controller. The camera also includes a new multi-function hot shoe which alleviates the need for extra batteries and cables in accessories such as micro¬phones and flash transmitters. The EOS R3 also includes flexible connectivity options with built-in wired LAN, GPS, USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Canon EOS R3 is designed to satisfy the most demanding expectations in a camera — emphasizing speed, performance, and reliability.

Canon EOS R3 - digital camera - body only
Key Features and Benefits: Stacked sensor Canon's first full-frame, back-illuminated stacked CMOS image sensor in the EOS R3 will deliver substantially faster read-out speeds, and produce much lower "rolling shutter" distortion than previous EOS models. Electronic Shutter Electronic Shutter operation will take full advantage of the EOS R3's sensor design. With its superb read-out speeds, continuous shooting up to 30fps (with RAW images), with full AF, in all auto exposure shooting modes, will be available with the EOS R3. And, Speedlite shooting will be possible with the R3's electronic shutter active. Autofocus The EOS R5 and R6 were only the beginning. Using Deep Learning technology, the upcoming EOS R3 will offer enhanced AF performance and tracking capabilities, with even better face-, eye-, head- and body-detection. And now, the EOS R3 will add vehicle subject recognition and tracking, for cars and motorcycles, especially in motorsports environments. Eye Control AF For the first time in an EOS R series camera, Eye Control AF will allow users to set the focus point in the viewfinder, by simply looking at it - for incredibly fast changes in where the camera focuses, or to set the initial point from which the EOS R3's AF system will track moving subjects. Rugged body Canon's upcoming EOS R3 will feature a solid yet lightweight magnesium alloy body and carry forward the integrated vertical grip similar to the 1D series cameras, emphasizing both horizontal and vertical handling for challenging shooting situations. Weather-resistance and durability will equal Canon's top-of-the-line EOS-1D X Mark III camera. Power will be delivered by the same Canon LP-E19 battery pack that powers the EOS-1D X Mark III. And, the EOS R3 will have three primary input dials, giving familiar operation to current Canon EOS users. Low-light Performance Able to autofocus in light as low as EV -7 or more, along with up to 8 stops of Coordinated IS control when used with RF lenses featuring Optical Image Stabilization, the EOS R3 will deliver amazing performance even in remarkably dark areas. Video flexibility With the EOS R3, you will be able to shoot in high-quality 4K with Canon Log3 and oversampled 4K, and RAW movie internal recording. AF tracking for people, animals and motorsports will be possible while recording video as well. Network capabilities To assist with your professional or personal photo and video endeavors, the EOS R3 will have Wired LAN and 5GHz Wi-Fi (11ac equivalent) built-in so you have the flexibility of wired or wireless connections and the necessary support for high-speed image transfer. Designed to deliver The EOS R3 will feature a multi controller to help you easily select the AF point, quickly change Menu settings, and more. And, the R3 will also be equipped with a smart controller - similar to that on the EOS-1D X Mark III - that lets you quickly shift AF point locations, or a starting point for Servo AF tracking. A Vari-angle LCD will make it easy to compose shots at virtually any angle, and will be touchscreen to enable you to access menus, change settings and more on the fly. And a new accessory shoe will provide options for data communication and power, supporting new accessories.

Wonderful tool. excellent auto focus, excellent dynamic range. The ability to move the AF point through out the entire frame vs DSLR, wonderful. Ability to shoot at slower shutter hand held. IBIS. Very low noise at higher ISO. Ability to view histogram live in view finder +. Price discounted recently
I can really appreciate that Canon has put so much into the R3. A professional tool that can shot everything from high-speed sports to portraits. Combined with RF glass and you have a winning combination for any occasion.
Switched from Sony A1 to the R3 and never looking back!
I am absolutely overjoyed to have purchased the R3 and excited for the images and video I will be able to capture. Before getting the R3 I had been shooting an R6. I watched several videos on the R3 prior to purchase and thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. When I actually got it in my hands and began to set it up, I was amazed to discover the true capabilities of the R3 and the labyrinth of customizable options. I truly enjoy shooting the R3 and it is an absolute game-changer. During set-up I maximize options by leaving and using dedicated buttons as set, and not taking up an additional button to serve those functions. I am still tweaking the settings and finding more ways to make the most of this great camera.
I've had this for a couple of weeks now and have just one minor complaint. I also have a 45 megapixel Z9 which I love and when people say 24 megapixels isn't enough for wildlife, that's just complete bull. It's plenty even leaving room to crop in but you can't be unrealistic if the bird or animal is just too far away. The sensor is beautiful and has a lot of character. The only complaint I have is the bump for the thumb rest is uncomfortable. I don't know if it is because it sticks out too far but I actually started to get a blister.
I've had my R3 for about 2 weeks now I can't and don't want to put it down!!!!! Best camera I've ever owned and finally my first pro body!!!!! I started getting into photography in 2009 with a Canon Rebel. I graduated to the 50D, then the 60D, to the 5D Mark II, finally followed by the 5D Mark III. I always wanted a 1D system but it was far out of my reach. When I seen mirrorless cameras I knew that was the future but, Canon wasn't gonna go there quickly. So I waited until they released the R I immediately sold all DSLR gear when that happened. The mirrorless technology coupled with the RF glass was everything I was waiting for. I finally got he R5 and R6. My photography business shooting weddings, senior and family portraits skyrocketed. I drooled over the R3 for 2 years and now finally I have it and I love it!!!! The autofocusing system in this camera is absolutely insane. The colors are true to life. The dynamic range is stellar and lowlight performance is nothing short of amazing!!!! Thank you Canon!!!!!
Phenomenal autofocus, good ergonomics that are very familiar for 1DX users, great quality images, and outrageous speed. You have to be judicious in how fast you shoot or you will waste time culling photos. The camera requires you to spend some time learning how it works - you won't get the benefits without working at it. I feel like I'm moving from a Mazda Miata to a mid-engine Corvette. It's worth it, but it's not as easy as the transition from a 1DX to a 1DX-II.
As a freelance member of the press, I cover a wide variety of events, including several pro auto races each year, so I need a top-of-the-line, best-of-the-best, professional mirrorless camera with fast, reliable autofocus for shooting auto racing. The Canon R3's car autofocus mode is excellent for car racing, keeping focus on the subject even when I am panning with the car and something briefly comes between me and the car. Additionally the Canon R3 fits in the hands comfortably, and is even easy to hold one-handed. When I need to shoot in quiet places, the Canon R3 is quiet, too. it has enough megapixels for my needs, while enabling high speed bursts without eating up too much space on my memory cards or later, on my office hard drives. The Canon R3's tilt screen makes it easy to shoot over people's heads, like during race winners' podium ceremonies. Battery life is long, and the batteries are easy to swap. The default video mode allows me to shoot video at the press of a single button — there is no need to switch the Canon R3 to video mode. It is not perfect, however. I wish it could use the same high speed, high capacity memory cards in both card slots, so that I could save RAW images on the backup drive at speeds as fast as the other drive's. Instead, I have to backup to JPEGs to maintain high shooting speeds. Also, there are not enough of a variety of RF lenses available yet, For photojournalism, I need a dust-sealed, weather-resistant, tough L-Series lens that can zoom from quite wide to long telephoto, and that zooms smoothly and effortlessly for when I shoot video. 28-300mm is what I used to use, and would like to shoot with again — but RF, so that I will not need adapt an old lens. Since I wear eyeglasses, when I shoot video I cannot easily see the video recording icon. As a result, I often discover too late that am not recording video when I think that I am. There needs to be a more easily seen recording indicator — perhaps a red border around the entire viewfinder, or perhaps a faint red diagonal line across the viewfinder. Overall I really like the Canon R3 and I highly recommend it.
The touch and feel of this camera are sublime. It really represents a tremendous amount of thoughtfulness and refinement. The grip and rubber texture feel like nothing else. It's fast. SO FAST. Eye control works and it works very well for me. The video looks gorgeous. The controls are so customizable that it really takes a while to simply choose how to set the camera up to my taste. I could use more megapixels for sure but for the bulk of my shooting it is more than enough, and for the rest I use my R5. It is a 5, 6, or 7 star camera except for one flaw. It freezes. I'm not the only person to report it either, but it basically becomes inoperable (controls stop working, you can't release shutter). I have to turn it off-and-on for it to come back to life. The main reason I boast about Canon and stick with Canon is because of reliability. That makes it so I rarely have to interface with Canon's customer service which I'm mostly reluctant to do. I dread having to send this camera in for repair or replacement. So that's why it's 4 stars. It freezes, and reliability is the main reason I use Canon, because of the incredible level of accountability my clients require of me. Thank god the R5 is in the kit as well so I have a backup.
This is will be difficult to understand, unless you are a NFL shooter. In trying to photograph receivers in a game, it will be great if the eye spot is continuously focusing even when button is half depressed as you don't punch the shutter. Now it requires you to half press to focus, not possible in the time you find the targeted receiver. In shooting two games now with two R3's, I'm missing all the receiver shots. The ball is already in the receiver hands instead of inches from the fingertips. However for other purposes, this is working great. I hope a firmware will give the user this option just as we have between servo and one shot for the regular focusing system, allow it for eye control as well as a sensitivity increase. I know it will require more battery drain, but we carry extra batteries.
