I bought the R7 camera and i was verry happy with it , for sports and wildlife great camera with the 100mm-400mm lens. you can not go wrong. i also bought the 18mm-150mm rf lens they are a great setup the speed of this camera is outstanding . the more i use it the better i love it.
It's light years ahead of the old canon rebel I own
First of all this is my first canon R mirrorless camera. I am coming from years of using a 5D Mark IV and 7D Mark II and their predecessors. To me it was like going from my AE-1 film camera to my first digital camera. Quite honestly, I am still a little bit shell shocked by how good this little camera is for the price. I was dreaming that this camera might make my older EF 200mm 2.8Lii lens into a killing machine. I didn't expect it to actually do it and the same with all my other EF lenses. The In-camera image stabilization is far better than I could have possibly imagined. I mean that same 200mm can take great photos indoors at 1/30th of a second with this APS-C sensor. Image quality is far better than I expected. The Eye AF and autofocus is a game changer with Wildlife and birds in flight. It does have its limitations and struggles at times with bright skies and heavy branches and just plain misses it completely at times, but when it works correctly……. it is amazing. In the past two weeks I have taken over 20,000 images of mostly birds and it just feels like cheating. It's that good. Of course it is not perfect and has several deficient areas that other more expensive cameras don't have. But for me, it just makes me smile. Not just sometimes, but nearly all the time! Probably my biggest two surprises with the R7 were was just how clean the images are right out of the camera. Thus low noise at higher ISO and Jpeg quality. Both much better than expected. I usually shoot Raw on one card and Jpeg on the other. Sometimes the jpegs are just so good and clean processing through the newer version of DPP that I just use as is. That was a rare, if ever, case with the 7D2, but more often with the 5D4. I do find that landscape images with the R7 often times need much more processing to improve shadows and highlights. No big surprise there, however. Anyway, ISO values of up to 6400 I can make useful at times. 3200 most of the time and 1600 all the time. This is about par with what I achieved most of the time with the 5D4. The 7D2 was 1600 sometimes and 800 all the time. I just don't remember the DPP software being this good with my other cameras. Pros: • IBIS • Eye AF and it's AF in general • 15/30 fps • No micro-focusing adjustments anymore • Adjustable screen • Lightweight • Excellent results on some EF lenses (35 F2 IS, 100L 2.8 macro, 200L 2.8ii, 100-400ii L, 24-70L F4 • Excellent Image Quality • Cropping ability with 32.5 mp sensor • Completely quiet electronic shutter • ISO can go up to 6400 straight out of the camera and downloaded to DPP 3200 on most other applications (This is probably my biggest surprise). • Really good in camera jpegs. Especially when processed with DPP 4.17.30.0 (another really big surprise) Cons: • Small and very slightly recessed buttons (downside of being small) • Screen blackout on slow shutter speeds • AF for birds in bright skies, wildly focuses at times • Electronic shutter warping at high speeds. Although I find about half are useable so not completely a con. • And of course the limited buffer, but I can deal with that by feathering my shutter release. But no excuses here, it should be better. • EVF/Display screen can bounce back and forth with corrective lenses at times. • Seems to completely lose focus on distant objects/birds unless assisted with manually focusing. So in summary…..Canon really nailed this one. Is it perfect? No. Is it really, really good? Yes. In fact, it is just way better than I possibly thought it could be. It has been a joy to use in my rather limited time with it.
I am really loving this camera! Autofocus advancements are amazing compared to my EOS 6D. Controls are more intuitive than the EOS R5 (to me). I use this for a personal camera and video is very important to me. I prefer Canon color science over Sony and Black Magic and that was the deciding factor for me. Plus, I get to continue using my LP-E6 batteries!
I told my parents this is the only thing I wanted for my birthday and lucky me got it, it has been amazing, never fails, long battery life, downloads straight to my phone, and amazing quality.
I've had this camera a couple of months now, and I love it! I upgraded from a DSLR 80D to the R7, and I use the Control Ring Mount Adapter for my EF70-300mm lens. The feature to track and lock on the eyes of birds is really amazing, and was the main reason I purchased the camera. I'm more of a hobbyis and I'm very happy with this camera. There's still a lot for me to learn, but I'm definitely out shooting more now that I have this one. It's also about the same weight as my 80D, I was really expecting it to be lighter after all the reading I was doing on mirrorless cameras, but it's not. The adapter also adds some weight to it as well, I'm just throwing that out there in case that's an issue for you. The benefits outweigh the cons for me.
I use this camera for bird photography and it is an absolute beast! I had been using superzoom and bridge cameras before and this camera just blows them away. The autofocus on the bird's eye is just incredible. I can hardly believe it can even find the eye at all when the bird is far off or hidden in a shrub but it does. I'm using it with the new RF100-400 f8 lens and the image quality is off the charts. The tracking is fantastic, even on distant flying birds. And the combo is so light! It is great for hiking. I've seen many reviews where it is compared to the R5. I mean, come on, that camera costs almost 3 times as much! Be fair. I think to even mention them in the same sentence shows how incredible this camera is. I guess I should give a complete review and note the drawbacks. I don't have any experience with other Canon cameras so the learning curve has been a bit steep. Because the camera is so new there aren't many videos or help sites, yet. And the documentation is a bit pedestrian tbh. But I am having fun learning and the Canon Community has been very helpful.
I am a professional portrait and event photographer. I am very pleased with the sharpness and overall quality of the images produced by this camera, even with a Canon ef to r adapter and several canon ef lenses. The motor drive is lightning fast and the camera is very easy to use. In my opinion the quality of the images produced by thr r7 is equal to that of the r6.
Have moved up through the years with Canon APC cameras from the Rebel to now, my first mirrorless camera. I use this camera for macrophotography with my go-to Canon 100mm L. Excellent features of the R7 with focus bracketing and stacking. Dual SD cards are a great feature. The only down side would be not being able to use flash with focus bracketing and the hand grip is a bit too small. I bought an aftermarket bottom piece that makes the camera perfect! A great camera for the price, and functionality. Highly recommended!
My new R7 is paired with a RF 100-500mm lens. I have had much improved sucess with the R7 coming from an EOS R6 and 6D Mark II. Focusing difficulties have gradually begun dissapearing for me, given I am a rank beginner and totally an amateur. I configured back button focus and animal eye focus to improve my chances with birds in flight. Unless you don't mind the price on the better full frame cousins, the R7 is more than enough for hobby photographers. I fully support the excellent reviews it has gotten.
