I have had this camera for many years and have been very satisfied...
It finally fail after years of keeping my family memories, for ever cataloged,,weddings, cowboy events ,and motocross races,,you name it ,,this cannon A70,has been threw it all ,and has never failed ,,buy one you will love it,,,,
My PowerShot A70, was bought in 2003, and I have taken over 20,000 and more digital photos with my PowerShot A70, usually in the Auto mode and M Manual settings. The many thousands, thousands, thousands, of times, I have moved all the setings, on and off button, over and over, focusing, the zoom, in and out, the all the other controls, over and over and these parts have held up. THAT SHOWS DURABILITY and QUALITY. I have had minor/small, no fee labor done on my camera, during those years of over use, but the camera is solid and really held up from all my use and wear..If I got that many photos, the average photographer, would have a camera for LIFE... My original A70 was put to use, September 2003 until November of 2009, when I traded it in for the PowerShot XS110, since the repair would cost the same as a new rebuilt upgrade, that CANON offers. This is one other nice feature, trade in your older Canon and get a discount price for a nice upgrade, your pick of 2-3 different models... I have found out this new XS110 produces fine modern technology and fine clear photos, BUT, close ups are very difficult to get a perfect focus, like my old worn out A70, so I just bought one, (the A70 for closeup, Maco, etc). My new XS110, lens shadow gets in the way, when you get close up, like inches away from the item, and just does not do the Macro qualty like it should.Very disappointed on that inferior, (lens shadow), problem, but magic with other handy features. So, if you like the A70 and do not mind having to use 4 AA bateries, then you should hold on to it as long as possible, if you use the camera for close up Marcro Zoom type pics,, it is fine and better than my XS110 upgrade. If you do not take close ups, look into the more recent Powershot digital cameras, it will open up a new PHOTOGRAPHY WORLD, for your life of pictures.
I purchased this camera in 2003, as it was recommended by the salesman. I have liked everything about it, until the newer lighter weight cameras came out. It is the four AA batteries that make it heavier. My pictures are very sharp and clear. No glare on birthday candles, etc. I still got red eye, but I have software to take care of that. I didn't appreciate what a good camera it was until it died on me last year. I've been trying to find another camera that will give me equal picture quality in a comparable price range. Due to new technology, I expected the new smaller cameras to take equal or better pictures. I haven't found one yet, after trying four that were recommended by the salesman. The reviews I've read about even higher priced cameras don't sound like they match up to what I expect after having the A70. There are many models to choose from, but picture quality isn't often mentioned. You'd think picture quality would be a priority for manufacturers, instead of the quantity of models. It is a difficult decision to make when you usually cannot return a camera if you don't like its performance, without a restocking fee. What happened to customer satisfaction?
Top all-rounder, easy to use and feature packed. Tremendous pictures
Very user friendly, easy to modify picture sizes, Menu shows way more options than I would expect. The rotating dial on the top allows fast change between picture taking, or Filming 3 minute clips.
