After watching several videos on-line to see how the Ultimate Sweater Machine works I decided to purchase the machine. WalMart's price is the lowest around, which I absolutely adore. The machine itself is hand manipulated which was okay for me because of the hundreds of dollars I saved. At first I must admit I was a bit disappointed because the videos I had seen made it look easier than it actually is OR so I thought. Once I set up my machine on the right surface (a table with no rounded edges), thread the yarn through the carriage the right and made sure my needles were in the right place at the right time it began to flow very well. I have made several items and have come across other websites that will show you how to create new and exciting stitches. For the price of the machine, it's unbeatable. Patience is definitely a key when first trying to use this product though, once mastered you will wonder why it was so difficult to begin with.
I got my first one in 1992. I have knitted a blue-streak ever since. Also bought extensions and the row counter and extra hems and weights. I learned to design my own patterns from it. I later got a USM after my bond crashed down from a shelf. It is just great. HIGHLY recommend the the Bond Easy spray..makes that carriage fly ..no more stitcky pulling..it is a silicone spray. You can make just about anything you want..your imagination is the gold key! I bought my daughter Jenny one this year..and she has already designed and preparing to knit a grey cabled bed throw! She is a fabulous designer and it couldn't have gone to better hands than hers! Onna
After my first several attempts with knitting were unsuccessful.... though I watched the included dvd... I was almost ready to give up on the machine... but decided to do a search of youtube for help... I watched many you tube videos by other users of this machine... I realized that buying at least one pair of claw weights(about $14 for two w/shipping) would make taming the edge stitches so much easier than the elastics and rubberbands included(if usm included these claw weights it would improve customer satisfaction & increase sales). In particular I found that the videos by Cheryl Brunette were extremely well done(who though she is using the older Bond gives extremely helpful information). I Would recommend her website 'how to knit a sweater', where her videos on Meet your Bond and Making you first sweater on the Bond are in order, over searching through the hundredths of videos on youtube to find them. I know am happily knitting away and have completed several of the items from the pattern book. Yes, this USM is not as well made as machines two or three times its price, but it is a good place to start.
I admit to not viewing the DVD, insteas I watched U-Tube demos. I am new to the knitting world and this machne has given me a craving to do more and more. I will be ordering an extension for my existing machine, and later buying the super-model version so as to have two. I have completed about 25 scarves in 5 days! I am now working on an afghan........................... Well worth the money
WE bought a KnitSmart and very happy with it. Bought this machine and very disappointed with quality,no weight claws and cardboard plates, also has clothes pin for weight. Not a quality machine for the money.
I could not get the carriage to work correctly .had to send it back, but would love to have one that works..I use to have one before I moved but was lost in move.
I sent it back. Not worth the money. Jammed all the time. Plastic would not fit together and needles fall out. I have had knittting machines before. This is a worthless piece of plastic.
Machine don't work. This was a gift for our god child and she was so disappointed. We all tried to help get it to work, but could not. My wife owns and has been using a knitting machine for 30 years and never had trouble like this. She was so frustrated. She was hoping this would be a great bonding experience for them both. We will have to return it. I hope we don't have any trouble doing so.
shipping was awesome. i was very impressed by the experiwnce with site to store. Once i picked up the knitting machine i headed straight Home to try it out. I watched the instructional dvd, put everything together, and started knitting ( not really). The plastic carrier kept getting caught. Then the machine would skip over 10 or more needles at a time. My work would fall and i kept having to backtrack. Majority of the time time i was yelling at the thing because it was hung up on something and it was never the same issue. Everytime it got hung up it was on spmething different.
I purchased this machine with the impression that it was the same machine that I'd bought from Walmart years ago. I loved my old machine, but lost it last year in a move. Here's what is wrong. There is a foam padding holding the orange bars up high enough for the machine to work. The foam padding strip makes it impossible for the hooks to move. However, when removing the padding strip, the bar isn't high enough for the carriage to move over the needles. None of my other Caron Ultimate Knitting machines have had this problem before. I'm using it without the carriage, as there is no other way to make the machine work.
