First off, the gasket got cracked in half by the pump during shipment. New gasket not in stock, so I made one to permit installation tomorrow. Then I noticed the steel backing plate was misaligned. Loosened the 2 screws to align it - and found the one screw's head was formed off-center. I decided to reuse an old one, but the new ones are metric (M8-1.5). Old ones are 5/16" coarse thread. Then I noticed the one good screw wasn't holding the plate tight against the gasket. The holes in the plate are countersunk too deeply - so the screw head contacts the pump body without pulling up tightly against the plate - this WILL cause a coolant leak if left as-is. As a result, I've replaced the screws with two hex head screws I had on hand. My hope is that the heads won't protrude too far and interfere with the valve cover nearby (this is why they are countersunk). I HATE taking things back, but if it won't fit with the hex screws in place, I will have no choice.
