I was looking for an elementary level book of facts about other countries. This book is exactly what I wanted to find. It contains such a variety of good and useful information, such as fascinating facts about each country, how to pronounce familiar words and expressions in other languages, simple recipes, craft ideas, classroom activities, flags, and maps. I like having so many different worksheet activities that can be reproduced for classroom use. These worksheets include flags and maps to color, word search and other word puzzles. The book has information about twelve countries. (The companion book, Another Trip Around The World, contains similar information on twelve additional countries.) I am so pleased to find this product. It is exactly what I needed.
I'm going to use this during our climate and culture unit to unite the students from all over the world.
This book has lots of potential. I like that it has a facts section, recipes, language activities, and classroom activities. My issue with this book is it wasn't well proofread. There are misspelled words throughout the book (ie: surrunded instead of surrounded) and misplaced/ incomplete information in the facts section. Ie: p. 104 Fascinating Fact "the lowest point in the United states is the only flag in the world to be the subject of a nati (rest of word missing from page)anthem, and was the first flag to be placed on the moon." On some pages the margins were too large and the sentences disappear into the right- side margin. I was really excited about this book and the fun, hands-on way it teaches an otherwise boring subject; however, a teaching resource should never have so many mistakes. The editor should be embarrassed.
