There are more expensive options out there. This device is easy to use and clean. I was up and running in minutes. I can't imagine that more expensive devices could do a better job for home use. Sous vide cooking is a slower process than other methods, but the results are worth the wait. While vacuum-sealed bags are optimal to keep the food submerged during cooking, you can use zipper-seal bags. You can buy weights at very little cost made for sous vide cooking. Do your research on how sous vide cooking works and look at some recipes. When cooking meat, like steaks, the meat needs to be seared in a pan before serving. The resulting flavor, tenderness, and doneness are perfect.
