We had a big problem in our new home with the former cat residents visiting us in the middle of the night. Problem is now solved. Our cat isn't thrilled with having to wait for the door to unlatch, but he managed quite well when we were out of town. Our cat door is at the end of a bit of a tunnel through the wall so it is not as easy form him to get in anyway. Great product!
this thing worked great for my situation! i had a stray cat coming in and sitting on my couch! and eating my cats food! this door fixed all my issues. this is the best priced one i could find. my cat took a while to get used to it because it does require a little force. after throwing her through it a couple times she figured it out. the other cat has been caught trying to get in but has yet to break in!! for larger rodents it might not work but for a stray cat it does the job
Great product. Keeps wild and stray animals out of my garage where my cat sleeps and eats. A raccoon entered through the previous cat door one night. It not only caused a huge mess but had everyone upset. My sleep was disrupted for two hours till I got the raccoon back out! Only my cats have entered since installing the Cate Mate. The younger cats needed a little more training to master.
I think the product is neat and beautiful. A pity we could not have it brown or dark green. The white color makes it very visual, we can't miss it. I would have preferred it more discrete. The other thing is that there is a battery whilst I thought it was just a magnetic cat flap. Nothing telling us when the battery is empty. I think the fact that the cat's magnet to its neck needs to be in a certain direction for the door to open is a flaw too. It should sense a magnet better than that when it is on the animal. My cat has already lost its collar, so I need to replace the collar and the magnet.
My cats have taken to scratching at the door wanting out at 3am. So I received the cat door as a wedding gift. After only a day of showing them where it was and opening it for them while they inspected it. They now come and go as they please. I love the 4 setting lock feature so if I want them to be able to come back in but not out.... just turn the dial!! I would recomend this product. Easy to install and worth the price. Only drawback is that I have one VERY fluffy cat and sometimes his thick fur hides the magnetic colar and the door cannot sense it. So he has no dificulty getting out but sometimes getting back in is a problem for him, but not always. The other cat has no problems at all.
Have 2 cats. They both use the cat door. Keeps stray animals out. Besides letting them in and out; the door can be set to just let the cats in or just out. So during the day they can go out and be locked in at night. It does require a 9V battery.
I had my doubts if this would work. But my little 6 month old kitten firgured out in one day how to come inside. It took her anothe 1/2 day to learn that all she had to was push it to go out. I am very satified and unless it malfunctions before its life time is up I would recomend this product.
I bought this to replace a staywell cat door. This product has a slightly more robust door, better weather stripping, and less air infiltration than the Staywell door. This product requires a 9v battery be changed each year, the Staywell door does not require batteries. This product works well, but does not fit doors as thick as the Staywell product does. For extra thick installations such as through walls, etc., the Staywell door has extension tunnells available. I am not aware of extension tunnells available for this product. I like it though, it keeps the racoons and possums out so far ;) My cat had no trouble transitioning from the magnetic Staywell door to this one.
So I have no complaints regarding the product. Great product. I am going to complain that if your neighbor puts a similar magnetic product on their door/cat then that kitty will be visiting your home real soon too.
This product has been excellent for my kitten Whiskers and I! There has been only one incident in which a stray wandered into our home and got past the Cat Mate. A feral barn cat from down the street somehow got through and caused quite a stir with Whiskers at about 4 am a few nights after we purchased this product but ever since no more problems have risen up.
