Seems to work very well. Be sure and extend the wire receiver antenna out straight as the instructions say. It gave my installation about a 100 feet range. The sticky pad on my transmitter wouldn't work on my insulated garage door so I had to make a different bracket. That's why I rated it lower on expectations. It has two holes in the bottom of the case which also appear to be for mounting. The instructions say the 2032 transmitter battery has to be changed once a year similar to a smoke detector. Press firmly on the flat tab to open the transmitter case to install the battery. The instructions need a better diagram to show this. Overall I love this product. It seems to be very well designed and well made. Leaving my garage door open is a thing of the past!!
I sometimes forget and leave my garage door open. The monitor lets me know when the the door is opened or closed . I put the receiver in the hallway and pass by it on my way to bed. The product is easy to install : just remember the battery goes in from the left side of the circuit board,
I can't count the number of times that my wife and I have risen in the morning to find the sun shining in the door of garage because one of us had forgotten to shut it before going to bed.... NO MORE!!! Just one glance at the little monitor lying on the nitestand and if it is glowing green we know the garage door is SHUT tight!!!... In fact, we put the extra garage door remote next to the monitor so if it is flashing red (meaning the door is open), I just press the remote and shut the door without taking another step and "presto-majic" the door shuts and the monitor shows GREEN.... ain't life wonderful!! No more worries about someone walking off with stuff in the garage or even worse, coming in the house through the garage while we were asleep..... at least, not through the garage door we left open by mistake. Thank you Chamberlain Universal Garage Door Monitor.
I did some research on available garage door monitors and the Chamberlain was consistantly priced better than its competitors. The unit is easy to install and works as advertised. I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase. I purchased it through Walmart's in-store delivery. There were no delivery charges and the unit was ready for pick-up very shortly after it was ordered.
Range 25 feet with antenna folded under unit - 50 or 60 feet with antenna straighted out. (this is tested through one outside wall). If you install the sensor at about 40 degree angle on door it tells you went the door is open about 9 inches or more. ( I did this on my door so I know it's open a little for venting in the summer). If installed straight up and down as per the manual , it will tells you went the door, is about half way open or more. other notes: 1* if you quickly unplug and plug it in,you sometimes have to have it relearn the sensor, as per the manual info. 2* inside unit draws about a 1 to 1.2 watts. 3* you could wire in a reed switch with a magnet on the door. ( if you want to know if door is open 1 inch or more, I may do this next summer)
I was always checking whether I left my garage door open at night, worried in summer about feral cats and in winter about snowstorms. Checking meant I had to step outside near midnight to get a look at the door. This monitor solved this problem, showing a green light for closed and blinking red for open. It was easy to install but I had two small problems. I velcro-ed the sensor onto the door and then realized door could go partly down and still show a green. I went back and read the instructions' fine print. You need to attach it near the top of door, I pulled it off, did that and now it is green only when all the way down. I was also surprised to seen the monitor with lights needed to be plugged in. When I read the description I thought I saw that it was battery-powered in both the sensor and the display. Maybe I misread it or maybe there were two versions and I got the wrong one. Finding a convenient place for the display near an outlet was a setback but it works reliably in the new location - just not as convenient as having it near the front door.
The adhesive is not strong enough to hold the sensor to the garage door. It falls off after being exposed to hot and cold weather for a short while. Had to use my own adhesive. The device works just fine. No more peeking thru the window to see if the garage door is closed.
Have only had it a week. Works great so far. Only problem is that the self-stick tape on the transmitter came loose after a couple of days and the transmitter fell off the garage door onto the floor. Still works, though! I re-attached it and secured it with additional tape.
Installation was a snap. Its been in use for more than a week and it works great. Regret that I did not purchased this product few years back so that I could avoid a theft from my garage. I installed it in my bed room upstairs so I can easily glance and have the confidence that garage door is fully closed without going downstairs and checking it.
It was worth it for the low price of $20 but sometimes when the door goes down, the thing inside must get stuck cuz it starts blinking from green to red repeatedly which the directions say means battery is bad, so I changed the battery only to find that wasnt the problem, cuz it still kept doing it SOMETIMES but not always, thats when I went out & put the door back up & down & then it stopped blinking & worked normally. So I have concluded that the battery compartment must not be tight enough & sometimes the battery moves around & loses connection inside or something to that effect. Otherwise its a good asset to have! It works about 80% of the time without blinking from red to green repeatedly & then I go out & put the door up & down once & that blinking goes away. One last thing: I ended up supergluing the back part to the garage door cuz the sticky stuff on the back of the velcrow got heated this summer & fell off so supergluing the back of the velcrow to the garage door has kept it up there--so far so good, smiles.
