I read some of the reviews after I purchased it and wasn't real happy what I was reading until I just stopped reading and took it outside and tried hooking it up for myself hooked up no problem cooked right the first time I used it as you can see by the picture it's a beautiful bird nice job Char broil
I got this smoker for Christmas last year, 1st one I got had issues I will not lie,(heating and such) They replaced that unit and I have been using this one since and I have not had any issues with it. It keeps the temperature in the cabin no problem, Food always comes out great. Never have any issues with WiFi
I have always used a charcoal smoker and felt that it was time to make a change as the charcoal smoker took way too much of my time to tend to the meat and keep the temperatures on an even scale. It really came down to purchasing an electric smoker vs a propane smoker, and I felt that the electric smoker would be easier to use as I wouldn't have to replenish the propane as much. Anyway, I have used the smoker about 3 times per week and smoked salmon, Atlantic cod, turkey, ham, ribs, sausage, lamb chops, lobster, catfish, and brisket (Texas Style...naturally) and they have all come out as good (if not better) than my charcoal smoker. What I really love about this product is the fact that I can add a brick or two of crushed charcoal in with the wood chips to get that charred smoky taste. It's really awesome. Also, I LOVE THE SMARTCHEF SMOKER '17 APP! It was very easy to download, and pair with my smoker. I love the fact that I can be working at the office or doing other chores around the house and always keep an eye on my precious meats. Really ingenious idea guys. I love that I can probe the brisket and the SmartChef automatically turns off the smoker when the food reaches the right temperature. That is another great feature, and of course, I love getting notified that the food is done (or at least ready to be looked at). All in all this as cut down the time I take smoking my meats by hours, and honestly I couldn't think of using any other smoker. This is THE ONE.
I was very skeptical. However, this works as described and is such a time saver. Over the holidays, I have done a venison tenderloin, chicken wings and a Standing Rib Roast. All three turned out great! The app is easy to use and set up and the smoke flavor is good. Only con I can find might be something that I am doing wrong. First, I can't find a way to use the smoker without the thermometer. With wings, it can be hard to get the probe to stay in a wing. (Yes I know I can use the potato trick of putting it through a potato and inserting in meat and laying on rack) Second, the chips don't seem to last as long as advertised. I don't soak them as it says not to. Most of the heavy smoke is gone after pre heat and first 2 hours of cook. Maybe this is how it is designed because everything has had great flavor. I just haven't cooked something like a Boston But or whole ham yet that might take all day. I guess in that case, you could manually replace chips. Overall, I love it!
This is a great smoker. I have used it to cook St. Louis style ribs (MY SOUL) they were good. Cooked some chicken thighs, after recovering from a delicious food coma I realized what a great smoker. I have my smoker hooked up at my grilling station some 40 yards from the house not facing the house and it works flawlessly. The only thing that gets me and it is no biggie it is the chip starting time. Mine runs for 40 mins so just need To plan for that.
The ease of use once the wifi is set up sold me on this product. The initial set up took less than 30 minutes. The season and chip preheating process were as described. There are some reviews that say they have issues with this but I had none. I bought this smoker to use in addition to a manual smoker I own. I wanted to be able to set it up in the morning and returned to smoked food after work, with the wifi connection I can do this. My first brisket turned out incredible!
We have had ours for apx 2 months and use 2-4 times a week. We love it. We've done beef jerky, smoked fish, huge bottom round steaks, brisket and made Pastrami, pork roasts, tri tip roasts, pineapple sausage, rack of lamb and Bushes baked beans with onions and bacon (catching the drippings) and everything was amazing. New update is huge improvement! We did have a really hard time with my iPhone but my husbands Samsung connects immediately and works great.
This is a good smoker, but its app is sometimes quirky. The second time I used it, the meat was overcooked. The cooking selections in the app are too few.
I got this smoker for Christmas 2016. Today I finally got around to using it. The clean cycle is simple, no issues. For my first cook I wanted to go with something easy and "Quick". I'm doing (it's still in there) a 5lb whole chicken. I used the guided tour, again super easy and intuitive. I loved how the app told me the current temp/target temp as well as the estimated time to complete. Now the sucky part...about 1.5 hours in I lost power, only for a couple seconds. When power came back on the smoker rebooted. I had to start all over. So i went to the guided cook again and it wanted me to do the 45min chip prep first (not really sure what happens there, I'm thinking its just a preheat). Instead I went with a manual cook just to get back to the metrics and not wait the pre-heat cycle. All is good but I dont like how i lost the estimated time to complete clock. I know cooking by temp is how you cook but having just that countdown clock was a cool metric to keep telling my family on when we would probably be eating around. Pros * Easy setup! * Intuitive app * Not overbearing with smoke pouring out Cons * Power loss, no clean recovery. Must start over. * App is very bland! Sure intuitive but tons of "white space". The pictures I see of the app on Charbroils website for the simple cooker fills up the white space with a picture of the food and the layout is better. I'd love to see more stuff , even if just fluff on the dashboard. (see my screenshot of my current cook). * No 5Ghz wireless support (?). Bummer! I had to enable 2.4Ghz to get this going. * No internal chamber temp. The app tells me what temp i have the smoker set for but how do i know thats accurate without adding my own guages.
My son gifted me this smoker for my 70th birthday. I was very enthusiastic about it so I set out to smoke a brisket. Because it's new to me I had a lot of issues with the set up, though some of my fault. Thanks to the customer support staff I was able to get it going and the brisket came out very good. Since then I've cooked a chicken and venison. I have a coupe of issues with the smoker: one that wi fi requirements are just too restrictive (distance and having to have the smoker facing the wifi router direction); two that in the manual setting you can't select time, probe and chamber settings, you can only select two of the three; three that when its time to place the meats inside, if you do not act promptly to push the start button it will go into wood starting mode, which upsets whole smoking process. When this had occurred I just added or decreased the cook time. All said my the brisket and the venison came out very good. The chicken did not I feel responsible for that. See photos of brisket
