I wanted a smoker/grill that was inexpensive to purchase and operate. I wanted it to be easy to operate. I wanted to work with supplies which were inexpensive and easy to get. I wanted some thing portable and easy to store. This smoker/grill met all my expectations.
I got this for my Husband for a early Father's Day gift and he loves it. It is easy for him to use on our small patio and easy to roll back into the garage after we are done with it. Only thing is it didn't come with a can to catch the grease so you have to use a soup can to catch any grease you have but other then that we love it.
I was contemplating whether or not to get this smoker..It was my first one and did'nt want to get one that I would regret getting but ended up buying it because of the price..It was a very good deal..I have used it about 5-6 times and of course it was really difficult at first (having never smoked meat before)..But now my meats (ribs. . .beef and pork, and sausage) are coming out great..It does let smoke escape from the covers but what do you expect from a smoker; And an inexpensive one at that.. You can fit two slabs of ribs on it easily.. Wish it had a front shelf with hooks but it's not that big of a deal (that's what a table is fo)..Figuring out the whole temperature thing is still a small challenge but, that is also because I am just starting out..If you're a beginning smoker or you're only feeding a small family, go fo it and get this grill/smoker, you won't be disappointed..Happy smoking!..
My husband saw this and wanted it right then . Later,I ordered it to be shipped to my store. It got there in good time and I had it hidden about 6 days before hand. He put it together the night before and used it on Father's Day...He loves it. It smokes good, has plenty of cooking space, and cooks fast . It doesn't take up alot of space and overall is perfect for a small area . We love it...
I have smoked with it twice now and grilled once.... it is a great buy. The smoking surface is bigger then my "Cajun Cooker" was and it works great. I found it easier to re-load with charcoal and hickory at the half way point, too.... I wish it had hooks to hang grilling tools on, but it is good!
A few tips I learned, first make sure you get the break-in process hot enough to burn off the chemical smell when heated the first time, I had to add a second load of coals to achieve this. Second I found out the further from the fire box you put meat the slower it cooks. The far right side of the grill just seems to keep stuff warm and the far left side will cook really fast even after adjusting the upper and lower vents. This smoker smokes very well and it is not that hard to clean out the ashes if you put Extra Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil under the grate in the fire box also under the grill grates in the grill area makes drip cleanup a breeze.
You can't expect more for 90 bucks. I solved the leak issues mentioned in some of the by the use of high temperature RTV sealant during assembly on the gaps that I saw light through and all joints and fasteners. Had to bend down the corners on the bottom of the smoker for the lid to seat. To get a better temperature indication installed a thermometer with a stem extending into the smoke chamber. The additional thermometer and the one provided gave similar read outs. Smoked a Boston but with no problems maintaining 200 to 225 F.
I bought this online for my boyfriend and was a little worried at first when I picked it up because the box it came in was so small! However, he was really excited to open it and put it together right away! All together it took about an hour to assemble with me reading the instructions and sometimes showing the pictures, the instructions were super easy and the process was quick. Unfortunately, our box was missing the assembly instructions but I was able to download them straight from Walmart's website so it wasn't too much of a problem, there were also care and usage instructions which were very handy for newbie grill/smoker owners like us. We used the smoker this past weekend for a pork tenderloin, chicken legs and hot dogs and everything tasted amazing! This was a very good deal for the price!
leaks -leaks -leaks!!! Does not hold heat.. have to do some mods to make it work...must seal the whole thing!!!!!! not realy satisfied!! I would'nt recommend it..
Friends, please take my advice on this one. I have never wrote a review on the internet before, but this one I couldn't hold back on. I know what most of you are thinking, "I'm just staring out, I'll get something cheap to build experience." That's what I thought anyway. This is the last piece of garbage that you would want to buy, whatever the reason. As soon as I started to assemble it I knew it was cheap. It is extremely cheap and thin metal. The firebox and grill door do not close properly, so as soon as you start smoking you can see all the flaws (and I know how to put things to together, I've been an engineer for 7 years) as the smoke escapes through all the gaps. The temperature gage doesn't even read in DEGREES!!! It says "ideal" or "not ideal"-- its embarrassing that they don't trust us to read numbers. So, with all this being said, if you are a beginner you will have an awful time gaining experience because you will be dealing with all the flaws of this pile of trash instead of perfecting your Q skills. It's not worth "saving" money. It really isn't. You do get what you pay for, but this is simply not worth it. I really hope anyone who reads this understands that I am trying to save you $100 and improve your smoking experience, especially if you are a beginner. I used it once, and bought a different one. Complete waste. If anyone does decide to buy this product I really wish you the best and hope your experience is far better than mine.
