I have pretty severe hearing loss and have trouble with telephones even with my hearing aids in both ears. So, I am delighted with the flexibility of this model, which includes a "speaker" phone, which is my favorite way to use it. I purchased two units, one for the living area and one for the home office. That way I don't have to run into my office when the phone rings just to be able to hear on the telephone.
I purchased this phone for my Mother who lives in a nursing home and has extreme hearing loss. I did research, read customer reviews and watched videos that displayed and described its features. Unfortunately, my Mother could not hear or understand any words through the receiver. I turned up the volume and there was no improvement. I have normal hearing and I tested the phone and I also could not understand the talker's words. The sound quality was very poor and there was a crackling noise when I spoke into the handset. I plugged the phone into a different phone jack in another resident's room and the sound was the same. I then plugged the other resident's phone into the phone jack in my Mother's room and the sound quality was good. The phone company technician tested the phone and the line and told me that it was the equipment. I'm not sure if it was an incompatibility problem with the phone and the nursing home phone lines. It may work in a different environment.
