Good Booster Seat - protected my child in a crash

Three weeks after buying this booster seat, my wife and son were in a car accident, where the car was struck on the side. My wife suffered a broken pelvis and other minor injuries. My son was strapped in his Compass B510 booster seat and it protected him - he had no injuries! This booster seat is a snap to unfold and put in the car. It felt more sturdy than others on display at the store. The color and texture of the fabric is nice, and it blends very well with my grey leather seats. Although the booster seat that was in the car accident had no visible signs of damage, it is suggested to replace them after a car accident because they may have hidden damage. I was satisfied with the original seat, so I purchased the same seat as a replacement.

I am very pleased with the Compass booster seat. I did quite a bit of research before I purchased and I'm glad that I decided to go with the Compass. It is very sturdy and has a lot of cushioning. My son is small for his age and he fits very well into this booster. I will definately order one for my daughter when she needs to move up to a big girl seat. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this seat; it's worth every penny!

Best Booster Ever!

This is truly the best booster seat that we have ever seen or tried! It is extremely light weight, comfortable, and focuses on areas that were problems for our son with previous booster seats. For example, his legs are very long, and this has a nice long seat that is great for his legs and knees. Two attached retractable cupholders mean never loosing them, and the arm rests adjust to so many positions that he never bangs into them when he is getting in and out of our car. All this and rated the #1 Booster on the National Highway Safety website!!!!

The seat is great. My son loves the cup holders and using the 'real' seatbelt. The seat is very well cushioned and my son loves that it still has a place to rest his head. My only problem is that the seat does move a bit (slightly tips but restraightens) when I make turns, because the seat is plastic (slippery) and boosters don't anchor into cars.(why they don't I don't know-it would be safer, I think). Anyway, I still love the no-gap when rising the back height, and he's already had a long trip and nap in the seat. He just loves it. As far as the little movement with turns, doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm just going to glue a strip of felt on the back to minimize sliding.

A bit long winded but I wanted to share my experience with the whole booster vs. higher weight/height 5 pt. harness. My 5 year old at 42 in. tall and 35 lbs. had outgrown his convertible 5 pt. by height but not weight. I LABORED over the decision to buy a booster, or a higher wt/ht 5 pt. harness b/c I saw the You Tube videos encouraging the 5 pt. as long as possible. I tried the Alpha Omega Elite 5 pt. for a higher wt/ht but it was a disaster - the strap is a joke and there was only one height slot left (and my child is small for his age). To my dismay, after all my research on 5 pt. harnessed restraints for a child beyond 40 lbs. I came accross several articles stating LATCH is not necessarily safe beyond 40 lbs. Apparently the auto industry hasn't set a standard re: how many lbs. LATCH can accommodate beyond that. Individual makes/models vary or there may be no info at all. I just didn't feel comfortable taking the risk of adding weight to tethers/anchors that may or may not have been designed to to so. If you're hesitant to use LATCH b/c of this then you have to use the seat belt to anchor the 5 pt. - which kind of defeats the purpose to me. After several failed attempts with other boosters (FYI Graco Turbo was flimsy and the head rest slid up and down without even trying to adjust - not good) I came accross reviews for the Compass B510. I see why it has received such rave reviews. It is easy to pop open (and I'm a small gal so not a problem) yet locks very well. I even sat in it myself (again I'm a smaller momma) and the thing is very comfortable. It doesn't wiggle in the seat, fits perfectly, and my son was able to buckle himself on the first attempt. The seatbelt guide is awesome, the adjustable headrest doesn't leave gaps in the back, and there isn't a huge difference in each height level. The B510 rocks!

I was pretty reluctant to buy this at first because of the price. It seemed so cheap but I had talked to a couple of friends who own this product and they highly recommended it. I truly fell in love. It is so easy to put together and my 3 year old son loves it. I will defintely purchase another for our other car and recommed anyone getting a booster seat to get this one.

It was great that the seat folded & came with it's own carrying case. I do wish the case was thicker as I think it will get holes in it very easily. Especially when being tossed around by the airlines. My daughter was able to use it without difficulty & I like the fact that the armrests move.

I bought both of the Britax boosters and quickly took them both back because the way the seatbelt went through the belt positioning mechanism made the belt fold in half and thus it would not retract after my child had leaned forward. It would just hand there with slack in it....obviously that defeats the purpose of the seat belt completely. I found the Compass and love it. It is wider than some of the other seats, like Graco and Evenflo, so I think it will actually last until the weight limit is reached. One down side of the Compass compared to Britax is the depth of the sides. I liked the Britax because the sides came out to protect the child's body in the event of a side impact crash but with the malfunctioning seatbelt I decided that was not as important. The Compass if light and comfortable. My son is 6-1/2 and loves it.

before i bought this car seat, i read every review on the boosters that walmart sold. this is a great booster seat. i love it and so does my 4 yr old son. i started looking for a different booster seat becasue whenever he fell asleep in the old seat that he had, his head would fall down or to the side, and i was worried that his neck would start to hurt. mind you, the other seat that we have also has siding on each side where his head should have rested if he fell asleep, but this one was not working that way. we just returned from a 6 hour trip one way, and we had no problems with his head falling to the side, because the sides on this seat are wider. This was a 12 hour trip and i figured if this seat was not the best one, i would know it then. this is really a great seat, and i also like the fact that it folds and have a carrying bag. last year when we flew, i had to have my sister purchase a car seat before we got there because ours was too bulky to carry on the plane, but with this one this will not be a problem. i thought this car seat cost a lot, but i have already received my money worth, just for my child's comfort. and if i had to, i would buy it again. i would highly recommend this product to someone who is looking to make sure that their child is very comfortable and doesn't mind paying for it.

Car Vs. Carseat

Warning! If the back seat of your car does not form a 90 degree angle, forget this car seat. This car seat is not flexible, like other brands and it will not mold to your seat unless it is nearly a 90 degree anlgle. It states in the manual, not the box, that the seat you are placing it on must be in the full upright postion. However, if you own a Chevy Trailblazer, you'll discover that the back seat will never form a 90 degree angle. Also, these seats are HUGE! If you have a small car, think again. Avoid the hassle of having to return it. Look for something else. Kbug in California
