I purchased the T Mobile;s own Coolpad Catalyst on November 1, 2016 after several months of contemplation on it's ability to add additional benefits to my life purchase. This smartphone was not my first purchase of the Coolpad brand. I am also a owner of the year older Coolpad Rogue also from T Mobile of which I bought one for myself and one for my sister. So I am already is experienced with both US intended models. I have not regretted my new purchase. Some of the specs and features are on the meager and lower end range in order to save money on it's manufacture costs in order to sell it at these very inexpensive prices (like the not-too-sharp screen even at 5 inches, skimpy internal storage availability (although having a Samsung 32 gigabytes SD card takes care of the storage problem nicely), plastic-y feel (even though in reality, it does not impact it's sturdy internal build), and smudgy fingerprints attracting glass screen. The real bottom line for me is more on durability and dependability which this mobile phone company does so well with it's products. I had only one dropped call during the time (over a year) I used these phones. I never experienced any problem that was not immediately attended to and able to fix myself very quickly without contacting the T Mobile call center. It is not junk! I recommend this smartphone for people on a strict budget. From the very young (first smartphone), the middle aged (does not need high tech fancy features), and the elderly (I don't need glasses to read text)! Another plus is it is not high on a criminal snatcher to walk away with this device. A big plus if you have to use public transportation or even go out in public.
Only problems I had so far is the text messages wouldn't go through once in a while. Other then that. is works fine
Picks up better than the other phones I have had .it's very easy to use very reliable good phone for the price
The local store only had three varieties of phones to choose from. I should have went with the cheapest. I purchased the Coolpad and thought I'd gotten a great day. After having it for about a week, I was so frustrated with it I wanted to throw it away. I don't talk on the phone a lot, but I text constantly. The touch paid for the text is absolutely horrible. Everytime I hit the space bar, it registers the letter v instead so I get words like this "pleasevcallvme." The ability to correct this is horrid as well. The phone isn't smart enough for the user click on the word and get a realistic suggestion for correction. Instead, you have to backspace the word out. This is another area that it is super sensitive and often registers the return key or ! key is the one that was pressed. It is also limited on the words available for quick texting. Incredibly frustrating. The rest of the phone works fine so far but the super sensitive keyboard is enough to put me off the brand.
Coolpad Catalyst Smartphone is easy to use and has adequate response time. I do it pretty intensely with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth running all the time. The battery has held up well and I am careful to keep it charged (with provided chargers) >30% all the time. However, I have had screen burnout on my purchased phone twice...each time within 3 months of purchase. So I have spent >$100 in 5 months that unexpectedly goes "black" or "washedout". That is not good!! Too bad, as this phone was in price range that I considered as a Wal-Mart "good value" purchase.
