I assembled this bench about 2 weeks ago, so far I'm extremely pleased with it. The assembly was easy and straightforward and it's very sturdy. Easily seated 3 people during a party and has great storage space inside. I like that you can lock the hinges for the lid when the lid is in the up position.
Very nice and sturdy. Has a lot of room to store things. Does need teak oiled after put together. But overall, very glad I bought it.
This is a great looking box that will give you years of service if you waterproof it. I waterproofed it with a product from a furniture store and I keep this one outside. You will need to purchase a cushion for the top of it to be used as a bench seat for company. You will not be let down by purchasing this fine looking piece of storage furniture that can be used outside or inside. It needs to be protected either way that you utilize the piece. The price is user friendly...................................................
Purchased the chest on sale for $85, but was willing to pay the previous "sale" price of $135. I have other Delahey pieces, and thought the chest would be great to store my furniture covers, candles, and other outdoor/patio supplies. I use it as a coffee table and think it is a good look. As the other poster mentioned, it is not waterproof. I do cover it up (As I do with my other pieces) when it rains. Overall, I think it is a GREAT piece for the price, but I rated it 4 stars because the assembly directions were terrible, and it seems to be average quality. One thing to note: is is a lighter color than my other Delahey pieces (sectional, chaises, tables). It doesn't look bad, but worth noting.
Not too hard to put together. Not real strong so will need to keep people from sitting or climbing on. Bought it to store material for personal use in. [I love to sew.] It is ideal for what I bought it for. It is not waterproof so don't know how it would hold up as a deck box. I would definately buy it again.
This deck box was purchased on sale for $85.00, at least $300-$400 less than teak deck boxes available from other retailers. While not made of teak, this box is constructed of FSC-certified sustainable hardwood (I think it is eucalyptus wood) and has a handsome teak-oil finish. I have only had the product a short while, so I can't comment on the durability, but it is VERY sturdy, easy to assemble, and looks great. Other purchasers have commented on finish not being waterproof, and this is true... no wood product can be left outdoors without expecting the finish to weather. I have put four coats of Helmsman Spar varnish on the box and it looks fantastic... a very yacht-like finish. An annual light sanding and additional coat should keep this product looking great for years.
This is a nice large storage box but it is definitely not water proof so don't store anything that can't get wet. Also we treated it with Treak oil but still the pieces across the top are starting to get warped by the rain. It is very sturdy so if we can just come up with a way to make it truely weather proof, inside and out, then we'll be good to go.
