I have used this laptop for a little over a week. It looks to be a good value, especially for my use as a desktop replacement unit. It is solidly constructed. I expect it will stand up to the rigors of traveling with aplomb. I don't run much just on battery and can't comment on battery life. But I can say the display is bright enough for my purposes with a sufficient resolution. I have side-loaded Mint Linux (which I run on it 99% of the time), and it is blazing fast. It's speed is sufficient to last me under Linux for 10 years. Windows 10 is reasonably fast. 16 GBytes of memory is ample.
Its a great from all if you compare it. 8 cpu's 16Gb ram and up to 32Gb directX12, 2 display UDH630 approx 8Gb and the other display up to 14 Gb GTX Max-q.I confirm if you drill down thinking you win not lose with price $849.
It has some quirks. Blue screens every week or so. Gets into a mode wherrrrrrrreeee it randomly duplicates characters. But otherwise basically perfect. Very very fast.
Great machine for the price I am really happy with it. The fans are really loud, I don't care about it because I wear a over hear headset, there's an nvida whisper option that's supposed to reduce the noise, I haven't really tried it. The reason I deducted one star is because it was a pain in the neck to make my headset work with it, it would not pick up the mic. I had to bend over backwards to make it work, remove drivers, remove the audio devices and the realtek software, it seems to be a drivers issue that a lot of people is having with dell machines.
Writing this Day one of having received and stress tested it. Things could change and if it does ill Edit and update the review So, i needed a better laptop for CPU intensive programs like video editing and CAD as well as light gaming. Games like warface, Mortal Kombat 11 etc. This is definitely the laptop that i needed. When i first got it i did experience high temps. What i did was i downloaded throttlestop and watched a video on how to safely undervolt and that helped with the temp so far. I played warface on high settings the first time without throttlestop and i got about 90C+. After undervolting it stayed at 61 max what i dont like though is howthe headphone jack is on the right side. this is because when i game it conflicts with my mouse but its no big deal I very much advise it, it's so far a steal for the price. i feel like if you take care of it then it would serve you well in the long run. if that changes ill be sure to post an update.
Several things: 1. Please use software to check that the laptop is a relly "new" one! (you don't know if you don't check. The process for setting up from the begining looks like brand new) I was so excited when this gaming laptop arrived. But after I checked, the HDD and SSD was used for about 20 cycles and 20 hours. It is definitely not a new one. 2. The SSD is a SATA SSD, not through PCle NVMe, which means the speed would be slower. 3. 16 GB RAM is 2 X 8 GB. (It is not a big problem). 4. Playing games like CSGO and DOTA2, the temperature would reach more than 70C. (Good news is that temp is stable, would not reach more than 80c, proving the cooling system works). The sound for cooling from the fans is loud. If you can ignore those problems, overall it is worth to buy for this price. The original product from dell website has a i5-8300H, GTX 1050Ti (GTX 1060 with max q version is still better than 1050Ti), 8GB RAM and 256GB PCle NVMe SSD. Price: $649. But it is all sold out. You can only purchase those from third party now.
Excellent hardware but in my opinion it's got a massive letdown. That is the size of thekeys. They are too narrow. Instead of the standard 5mm keys they decided to cheap out and instead you get 4mm. Not to mention the numpad keys, which are even narrower. I own an HP and the keyboard is so much better. Very disappointed about Dell's keyboard. Will return.
Laptop isn't Oculus Rift S compatible. The USB3.1 thunderbolt port will not work and there isn't a display port available. I returned it for this reason, but otherwise seemed like a good laptop.
Had my computer less than 5 months hard drive went bad . Tried calling 2,3 times .They did after emailing ;offered to switch hard drive but when i told them my info needed to be wiped off before switching them -the emails ceased
Highly do not recommend. Was really looking forward to getting this pc, had seen other reviews saying it was good. Because of the price I bought it, shortly realized its nothing they say it is at least mine isn't. I love playing games, always have but this pc just doesn't have what it takes. I experience alot of screen tearing while playing even on low settings and I will often be playing a game and then it just freeze and I cant do anything I have to turn it off for it to restart. Almost everything about it has been nothing but trouble and stress, I'm extremely disappointed in it and I'd have to say I will never buy a Dell again just off this experience.. Thanks
