LATCH system on booster seat is fantastic

I wanted a booster seat with a LATCH system so it wouldn't slide around everywhere. Once you clip this seat in and tighten, it won't budge. The cupholders are a nice added feature. There are two other latch system backless seats out there. One is more expensive and one is less. The only reason the Diono seat did not get a five star rating is because it is pricier than most backless booster seats. But it is very safe and is a good product. You get what you pay for.

I just have to say first off the 2 things I do not like about this booster. First is, taking the cover off is a pain. It is very hard on your fingers. I have owned many carseats/booster seats and I have never owned one this difficult to get the elastics embedded onto the pegs. My fingers feel like they have rug burn literally. Second, this seat is marketed under it's unique name THe Santa Fe backless booster, but this backless booster is merely the backless portion to The Monterey high back booster seat. And in saying that, I feel they could have given more attention for the price of this booster, to see that the plastic connection to the rear of the backless seatback had either a smooth plastic cover attatchment w/ foam or a thick 2 inches of memory foam so that you wouldn't at all be sitting on what felt like 1/4 inch digging into your bottom u peg shaped connector for the back. I want to say that they did give it some thought as they do have a very lightly pad (akin to carseat belly pad- I'm thinking graco nautilus belly pad) cloth covering to securely cover the back/seat bottom connection site. But it's just not enough. In my opinion, if they are going to market their backless booster as it's own product, they should do everything possible to make it as great a backless booster that they can. Realistically speaking, if someone is ordering soley a backless booster, they probably do not need that connection site to add the monterey's back onto it. My question, if I needed a replacement part for the monterey high back booster I would like those parts to be available but not at the expense of the santa fe backless booster being inferior because parent's that needed to buy a bacckless gets stuck with that uncomfy connection site. Just my opinion is to find a better way to mask the connector. I did this by adding a 1/2 inch of yogamat memory foam in an L shape covering the connector site and adding 1/2 inch depth to the bottom back. I secured it with carpet tape. Okay now that I'm past that part of the review, I love love the cupholders, the plum color, and the latch. I honestly thought the cushy-ness of it was going to be a super soft melt into the seat soft but instead it's a firm won't hurt your bottom softness where you melt in maybe a tiny bit. So what I'm trying to say is the foam is dense and soft, but it definatley still feels like a booster seat. Youre not going to find magic comfort like you get in a real car's cushion to be clear. When I went to go and latch the seat in my suburban, it was easy to do. The only moderately hard part was to get the latch connectors released from the booster seat to start. The rest was easy peasy, and the booster seat stays in place in the car which is very cool. I personally don't think you need latch for safety but it is convienent so the seat doesnt tilt or rock when your kid is getting in /out and you don't have to remember to buckle the booster up when your child's not in the car. So I'm happy that my 2 carseat/booster seats I have in my car are now both latched for conieniece. Very cool. Also, the grips on the bottom are very good quality so even if you don't use latch it won't slide around like some other boosters do. And there is no gap in the back of the booster from my vehichle's seat back to back of booster, but I did put foam to cover the connection site for high back booster use and ran the foam over to the back of the booster's seat back, so I don't know but there is no seat gap at least with my modifications. I think this is a great booster for the longer & wider seat depth so my 6 year old daughter's legs have room to grow longer and wider over the next 3 years or so. And my daughter had been wanting a cupholder for awhile now and I'm happy that for my daughter's age, the cupholders are underneath the seat so there is maximum seat leg usage space. I had considered the very neat looking graco affix, but I was looking for longer seat depth to maximize her time in a booster, and I thought the graco affix would not grow with her because of the placement of the very cool cupholder stunting her leg space when she was 8 or 9 years old. So overall, I felt this was a good choice although I felt it was overpriced and I further had to add foam over the uncomfortable high back connector site.
