While Walt Disney was well known as one of the great visionaries of American entertainment, his imagination didn't stop at animation. He had a keen interest in science of all stripes and, in the 1950s, was especially fascinated with the possibility of space exploration. Disney produced and hosted a series of television specials in which he visualized what travel through space and to other planets might look like and the wonders it could hold, and many have credited his Tomorrowland broadcasts with helping to pave the way for the creation of an American space program. Walt Disney Treasures: Walt's Tomorrowland - Disney in Space and Beyond is a compilation which brings together five of Disney's classic Tomorrowland specials: Man in Space, Man and the Moon, Mars and Beyond, Eyes in Outer Space, and Our Friend the Atom, along with a short film from 1966, EPCOT, in which the producer outlined his plans for his next theme park project, Walt Disney World, and its ambitious offshoot in scientific education, the EPCOT Center. (EPCOT would prove to be one of the very last films Disney would work on prior to his death in 1966.)
