Right out of the gate this is NOT a child friendly game! As the M rating states this is a mature game with violent death scenes and imagery that may not be suitable. That said its up to the parent to make the call but from experience I can tell you the animations are very graphic and very detailed. Now, on to the game. Having played the alpha, closed beta, and open beta I can say this for certain. This is an extremely fast paced run and gun first person shooter as one would expect from the older games. Speed can be modified to tailor to every gamers liking but as with most games of this nature the slower and sedentary you are the more you will have to respawn. The single player campaign boasts a huge 12-15 hr average run time. For those that are fans of the genre you know standard single player campaign is average 8-9 hours. For the old school doom players. The multiplayer is more of a quake arena and unreal tournament meets call of duty mashup. It retains the blistering speed of doom but includes the load out system of more modern shooters. So don't expect to be running into a match with your bfg and 20 rounds. As with all doom games minus the addition of doom three this game completely does away with reloading and just gives you a total ammo count which you can replenish ammo by picking up boxes as usual or preforming the new "glory kills" these are kills in which after you damage the opponent enough they flash. Once you run to the flashing opponent and melee him you are treated to a gory yet satisfying animation that usually depending on what angle you are approaching the enemy winds up with you gaining health, armor, and ammo. As previously stated these are extremely graphic. All in all I love the game and my time with it is amazing and the new snap map editor which allows infinite possibilities for a player to create their own map and upload it is a great touch. Beef up the strength of the enemies and you and four friends can run through the hardest level you can dream up. This for me is what doom 3 should've been.
