First, the set itself - All of the items are non-fuctional (the blowdryer, curling iron, etc), save the clip-in hair extension. Still, they have decent pretend play value and seem to be reasonably well made. The compact really does open and close. The curling iron really does move. Even the cap on the hairspray bottle is removable (note though: it makes for a *tiny* piece). There are 2 things that make me like this one better than the other 2 sets currently available (the puppy set and the DJ turntable) - 1) it does all pack up into the make-up case to store it, and 2) it unlocks the best function in the online Dora Links world (the disguise station).
This product does not unlock any new mysteries. The pieces are small and easily lost. We have only had it a short while and I am constantly putting the pieces back into the little container that holds them. My daughter quickly lost interest in these pieces. However she loves doing the mysteries and loves her Dora links doll and the school set we bought. The school rooms and other explorer girls are a much better way to spend money as they unlock more mysteries, but that's just my opinion.
