I was surprised to see that there is in fact enough film to do 10 3x5 windows. The adhesive tape that they give you work somewhat but you might want to grab some clear duct tape to help you out a little bit. That's what my husband had to use. Other than that though they seem to be working an insulating our window that was cracked.
Wow,,just exactly what I was looking for & Walmart came though. Did not want drapes & all the frills....just something simple to keep some of the air out around my windows. Found this on Walmart site by accident....while looking for window covers. Just can't say enough good things about this inventive find.....easy to install.....even for one person. Works great to keep the blowing wind at bay. I love that I can still see out of my windows and this is barely noticeable. Easy instructions.....so don't feel intimidated....it's fun and easy. What a great find and buy! Very highly recommended....just sorry I didn't find it sooner.
This is our second winter using window film and we are very excited to be doing so. It can be a tad tricky to apply without wrinkles. Nothing fatal, but you will have to spend more time with the hair dryer on windows where you left a wrinkle near the edge. We're a lot better at it now. They go on faster. Two of us get one installed in about 15 minutes (that includes measuring the window, measuring and cutting the film, cleaning the window (since you won't be able to clean it on the inside till spring!), cleaning the edge around the window where you'll tape it up (so the tape will stick), putting up the double-stick tape, stretching the film over the tape and sticking it, cutting off any larger overhangs, and tightening it with a blow dryer. It's hard to say _exactly_ how much it helps, but we have measured heating costs fairly carefully and tried to compensate for variations in outside temperature. We know for a fact that our home retained more heat on cooler but not frigid nights, meaning the furnace did not run at all on many nights with temperatures in the 30s. This year we are covering the windows in the basement as well. Great stuff. Short of buying new windows, which is on our list, but would be almost five thousand dollars, we're very pleased with the film and will continue to use it. Gotcha: animals can be a problem. Not a huge one, but a problem. We have a dog and two cats. The cats will probably be responsible for about 20-30 tears over the winter. The dog will do one or two. The tears are trivial to fix with clear packing tape, so it's not really a problem as long as you catch them fairly soon. We've never missed a tear long enough for it to become a huge problem.
This worked really very well. Beyond expectations. Preparation of the surface is key to success- clean it with something such as isopropyl alcohol (not included in the box), warm it up with a hairdryer or hot air gun then apply the tape. Works well. Cut the panels with about 1- 1 1/2" excess all around and stick on- its easier than you think. Be patient with the shrinking when using a hair dryer. Too much heat will perforate the panel. Clean your windows before putting this on- a dirty window behind the sheet will just irritate. Takes about 20 mins per (large) window including cleaning. If you have larger than standard windows (I do) then the panel width is too small so you need to cut it lengthwise- which is wasteful as you end up with thin unusable strips but it doesnt seem to come in the size I needed (70" tall). But at the price, that's not an issue. Noticable difference immediately. Been about a month and it is still working well and the tape is on solid
This is a high quality product for a reasonable price. The materials are properly designed and of practical effective for the purpose. I feel that I have lessened the cold air intrusion of my house. The furnace does not turn on as frequent as before I applied this product on my windows. Thank you.
I like the film a lot! The installation was real easy and quick. I have old wood windows in my apartment which are nowhere near to be insulated and I constantly have moisture accumulating on them every morning and dripping down. So, the film on bottom of my windows have fallen off because of moister dripping down, but I have put a duck tape on the bottom and it holds! Be careful installing the film, do not over use the blow dryer otherwise the film will shrink so much that it will come off the sticky tape! But you wont believe how much cold air that film holds, on a windy nights I can just hear a wind blowing through my windows and making the film shake, but guess what? None of that cold air is coming through! Wonderful way to save on winter electric bills! I highly recommend it!
Found these on sale for uber 5$ online. Most others charge 10 to 15$ for window kits online. Which is outrageous. But since I don't drive ordering online is sometimes my only option. These work great and once to heat them with a hair dryer they are almost unnoticeable.
the plastic is great using it my second time at another place, only problem is the tape some how got smashed so i need tape, going to contact them about this think perhaps ill get some tape , the other time i used it it loereed the utility bills about $220. per year
After cleaning then wiping down with alcohol and allowing to dry. I put up the tape, wish there was an easy way to peel the backing off but oh well. Then I started putting up the film and use the hairdryer. That's when I found out no matter what I did the tape wouldn't hold. So half of on roll of film was wasted on our wooden picture window. Next morning, I gave it another try on some vinyl windows we have, and all was fine. So, I guess these kits today are no good if you have an older home or old wooden windows, because the tape doesn't stick. That's exactly why I got this kit because our windows are old, especially the picture window. And they are cold during a Minnesota winter.
The quality of the plastic in this kit has declined! I used this kit before in the past with the same window treatments(mini blinds) and the plastic NEVER tore. I will not get 10 windows out of this kit because I had to double each window. Not only did I double the plastic, but I had to to seal off the edges with clear packaging tape. Save your money and buy drop cloths or another brand! I wish I could get a FULL REFUND only because I spent so much time and it was still an epic fail!
