Its a great smoker.. easy assembly... easy to light.... only thing wish the legs were thicker steel.... cant wait to use it some more... and going to use it in a rib cook off.....
I originally purchased the smaller version because this one was out of stock. Immediately after I had received it and had my first smoke session the larger version became available. I was so impressed with the smaller version that I had to order this one and gave the smaller on to my brother. For my first cook out I smoked a brisket and eight slab of ribs for an anniversary party. Wow, what a great smoker. I do recommend sealing the smoker door and placing sealant between the box and main body during assembly.
Read several reviews before making the purchase. Received the product in three days. Was packaged very well. No problem with dents or scratches. I sealed the fire box, the firebox, door, thermometer and smoke stack with self sticking seal used on the Green Egg. One small role was just enough. Have not cooked on this yet but did season the smoker. Filled firebox about 1/3 full with lump coal and a couple chunks of cherry wood. Maintained 240 degrees for 1 1/2 hours with no problem. Plenty of smoke. Hope to smoke on it this week.
I'm new to smoking but this one has already made us some delicious food. I've used charcoal briquettes but also used maple and oak from my own yard. pretty easily maintaines 220-250 degrees as long as there is coals in the box. i purchased a heavy cover for it separately. there may be or likely is better ones available but I am very happy with this one and recommend it.
Right out of the box I added extra heat sealant to the door, where the two boxes combine, and where the smoke stack is. Also I added a can to the smoke stack on the inside to help keep the smoke in. I saw people doing it on YouTube and seemed like a good idea. I also added a frame to the bottom and added wheels. Very happy with this smoker.
Ok this is not a thousand plus dollar pro smoker. It is however a nice sub $300.00 alternative. Easy to build as I did I alone in under 30 minutes. The unit itself is not that hard to move around as long as you keep the grates out. It has a small firebox and does burn through charcoal or lump in a few hours so for long smokes be prepared to refill halfway through. It lights easily and puts out a nice smoke throughout the unit. The provided temperature gauge is accurate as I tested it with my IGrill probes and at the top grate it was almost the same. The power probe and lower grate has a 50 degree difference lower than the top so that will cook items at different speeds. So far have only done seasoning burns to get it ready and learn temp controls. Not unhappy with the unit yet and hope not to be.
This smoker is a good smoker for the price . I am a experienced smoker and was looking at larger capacity smokers. All smokers you have to learn your vent use the material I used is fair for the price your not going to get very heavy gauge metal anywhere anymore. My first run using it I smoked a 29 lb turkey a 9 lb pork shoulder and beef ribs I used hardwood and charcoal mix no problems . For me it fits the bill great smoker for the money
The overall quality of the Manufacturing was not as good as I had expected. The metal panels that make up the 3 walls were not welded together in such a way that it would trap smoke in the smoker. I could easily see daylight thru the seams and when I attached the smoke box to the Smoker, the seams also did not close up. I was forced to purchase High Temperature Food Grade Silicone in order to close up the gaps and I have not used the smoker yet because I have to allow the Silicone to cure. The cardboard boxing that was used to package the smoker was very thin and didn't protect the smoker from exterior damage during shipment from China. The manufacturer packed all of the miscellaneous accessories inside the smoker box to protect them from damage, but the smoker itself only had thin Styrofoam in the corners of the box, but nothing in front or on the sides so they are easily dented or damaged as a result. The top of mine was damaged where the smoker chimney resides. On a positive note, I chose to customize mine by installing caster wheels on the bottom and because of that, it is very easy to move around on my patio and the overall weight becomes a non issue. I also took some advise from a previous blogger and I painted mine before assembly with high temperature black paint to avoid loss of color on the outside after a few uses and also avoid future rusting. If I was the Manufacturer, I would invest more money in the packaging as well as the quality of the metal it is made with and ensure that the seams inside the smoker are completely closed and also I would offer an upgrade to caster wheels vs standard stationary legs. I purchased my caster wheels at Harbor Freight and they were strong enough to support 120 lbs and they were only $ 5.99 each. Small price to pay for ease of use and reduced concern about potential back injuries while attempting to move after and during use.
While this makes for a pretty good smoker for this price range, the construction is terrible. The black coating on the chimney began to wash away after a light drizzle of rain. Some water leaked into the cooking chamber and rust began to form before the end of the day. By the time i came home from work to dry it the coating failed. Time to by some high temp paint and give this a nice once over.
very difficult to assemble as the very small bolts are the minimum length and diameter to complete the job! There were parts missing that was shipped to me within 2 weeks! Still thinking of returning it
