Just when you thought winter was never going to end, the spirit-lifting greigii and kaufmanniana tulips burst into bloom. These early risers rarely grow over 10 inches tall, but their stocky stems and bright colors are the perfect antidote for the gardener with a bad case of cabin fever. Both of these tulip species also offer mottled or speckled foliage that keeps the plants colorful long after the flowers have faded. Our Garden Escape Early-Bird Collection contains 6 bulbs each of two varieties of kaufmanniana tulips and two varieties of greigii tulips. The kaufmannianas (hardy from zones 3 to 8) include 'Heart's Delight' and 'Ancilla'. The greigii tulips (hardy from zones 3 to 7) are 'Perlina' and 'Donna Bella'.
