I live in an area that is heavy in clay and rock. I won't try and say the Earthquake dug through with no problem. I often had to stop and clear jams or remove what the Earthquake couldn't handle. That said it did better than I thought it would. I am yet to have a problem with it starting easily. So far we have dug around 20 holes for our property fence which are each two foot deep. I almost only gave it 4 stars because I rarely rate a product five star but changed my mind because I could not honestly think of a negative to justify striking a star.
