Easy Tech : Cases and Materials in Courtroom Technology, Used [Paperback]

As the name suggests, this book is designed to teach trial practice and the integration of evidence presentation technology in courtroom advocacy. Easy Tech starts with materials on the evidence camera, then discusses projecting computer generated images through software such as PowerPoint(r), and finally focuses on the telestrator. The book describes how each works, how they are assembled, and for what purpose they are best used. Special problems have been created for each device to teach their use. The authors then present a section on making and meeting objections commonly associated with the use of technology in the courtroom. Three short and simple case files follow (a contract case, criminal case, and personal injury case) presenting facts that can be mastered quickly. Each case has problems specifically created to teach the integration of technology with advocacy skills. The problems are in the areas of direct and cross-examination, opening statements, impeachment, the introduction and use of exhibits, and closing arguments. The case files instruct students on how to use two kinds of courtroom displays: Evidentiary exhibits, which are enlargements of exhibits or parts of exhibits that are admitted in evidence so that the content of the exhibit can be more easily followed during testimony, and Illustrative aids, which are enhancements of exhibits (through labels, highlighting, callouts) and materials specially prepared for litigation (such as bullet point slides, or charts, or diagrams) that are used to assist in the explanation of the testimony. The book includes a CD-ROM that has a PowerPoint(r) slide show for each case file that contains exhibits, exhibit treatments, argument slides, and slides specifically created to teach various ways of impeaching using technology. Thumbnail printouts of each slide show are included for ease of reference. As an added feature, digital copies of all of the exhibits are kept in separate folders for use in teaching how to create PowerPoint(r) slide shows.
