The oud is one of the most popular instruments in Arabic music and known for producing a powerful, resonating sound. This model features pretty carvings in sound holes. There is also an intricate design on bowl of oud with mother of pearl inserts. Soundboard: The sound board is spruce and has 3 round sound holes with a decorative pattern around edge. Includes a sheesham pick guard at bottom that is used to prevent players from scratching the sound board. Tuning: There are 2 strings per course, each tuned to the same pitch. We recommend using the Arabic method of tuning: DGADGC (D2,G2,A2,D3,G3,C4). The range is from D2 to C5. Tuning Pegs/Levers: There are 12 sheesham pegs and 6 courses of strings, however, the maker of this oud only installs 11 strings. It is very popular in Cairo to play with only 11 strings; only one on the bass or 6th course. Note: Whether you purchase an instrument on-line or from a physical store locally, it is recommended that you change the strings on your new instrument as soon as you receive it. The strings of an instrument both in a store or shipped to you are exposed to air and different environments prior to you receiving it. During this time the strings WILL oxidize, decreasing it's life expectancy and reducing the quality of it's sound. On occasion instruments may even arrive with a broken string, therefore, it is recommended that you purchase a replacement set of strings and consider changing your strings as soon as it arrives.
