I'm that mom that used to spend hours slaving away in the kitchen making meals to feed her family. It was so exhausting and sometimes there was just not time for it and I'd rush and stress. So, I've been trying to find ways to help myself out and save a little time in the kitchen because I'm running a business now and there's just not time for all that anymore. So, a few weeks ago at Walmart I had an epiphany, I thought it probably wouldn't work, but it did. I got these burritos. I got a can of green enchilada sauce that my sister swears by. I baked the burritos for 5 minutes at 400 in a greased cake pan. I added some garlic, cilantro, and finely minced onion to the sauce and poured it over and around the burritos filling the cake pan. I baked it at 420 for 15 minutes. During the last 5 minutes I added Colby Jack cheese. I made rice and heated beans as a side during the 20 minutes. It tasted surprisingly good and it was all done in 25 minutes. This is going to be added to our monthly rotation for days when 25 minutes is the most I have to spare for dinner. This is the only brand however that seems to work well. I'll be playing around with other variations, their chicken worked well with red enchilada sauce, but this is the favorite so far.
These were great, although they are smaller than a normal burrito. The tortilla was actually soft, not hard and chewy. The fulling was tasty and wasn't skimpy. Pleasantly surprised by the quality, and my husband loved them.
Better than store brand by leaps. Filling and wrap ratio is good enough. Could use more green chili though, they were barely present.
I started buying these as I needed to add more protein %26 fiber from beans to my diet since I've cut back on meat. The filling is beans (texture of refried beans which I prefer) and some ground beef and a nice level of green chilies and spices. We prefer mild heat vs the a lot of heat from hot peppers. These are really good! I also love that rice-free options are available. Serve with your own preference of Mexican Sauce/s. I often enjoy them plain too! I'm hoping one day El Monterey will offer lowered sodium choices (not salt free) yet, I love the flavor and will keep buying these until then, I'll just need to limit how often I indulge. :)
Good burritos for the money. I found a trick to microwave these. Wrap a frozen burrito in parchment paper and nuke for 3 minutes. The paper gives it a wrapping to steam nicely, and the burrito is fender and moist rather than dry.
These have lass saturated fat per ounce than Tina's burritos. A big plus is identifiable whole beans. From the freezer, I put 2 in my microwave for 30 seconds, flip and 30 more seconds. Then spray with a little oil and put in airfryer at 350 for six minutes. I do not preheat fryer more than time to do other steps. In about 7 minutes they are hot, crispy crunchy and seems just starting to vent steam and filling. Since they do have saturated fat, I chase with water and Psyllium husk caps, to recapture the fat and escort it to the porcelain throne.
If they make these any smaller they'll have to start calling them hors d'oeuvres! This is getting ridiculous! My family has enjoyed this brand of burritos for years and they still taste great but it seems like they're getting smaller every couple of months. But prices still getting bigger. Not a fair trade off in my opinion.
This brand burritos used to be GREAT-NOW LAST SEVERAL BAGS THEY ARE TERRIBLE, a little bit of beans inside with THICK WRAP WHICH IS LIKE SHOE LEATHER!!!!! Even after I soak them in water the tortilla outside had to be thrown out cuz it cannot be chewed!!! Hardly ANY FILLING INSIDE! These are now the worst burritos and a waste of money! Better to get the beans and make them yourself.
These literally made me vomit. They tasted fine while consuming them %26 they were the only thing I ate so I know they were the sole cause for what came next… 30 minutes to an hour later, I literally threw them up. It was very painful %26 I'll never buy these again.
I've been eating the green bag (beef %26 chili) for years. They recently changed these. They are smaller, practically no filling, and not worth it. Try another brand.
