My 87 year old father got one of these a couple of months ago. He is quite techy for his age. I helped him set it up and have been over to his place several times since he got it. I have used this computer a good deal and it is terrific. It's an unbelievable value. I buy around 7 computers a year and use three different computers regularly, and this one really impresses me for only 300 bucks. Highly recommended.
I have to say that I was hesitant to buy this cheap of a price emachine, but it's impressed me so far. After buying the high dollar dells I can say that this emachine is worth every penny of it's price. Not much Garbage software installed, Quick Downloads, Uploads and no problems playing games. If you looking for a cheap quick desktop pc to replace the older once, then I'd highly recommend to give this one a try. I'm very satisfied with my purchase of this machine
This light small pc has the specs that were advertised. One word of caution, if you plan to add more drives, go with something else. There is no space for adding anything realy. However, this computer can handle any thing a home computer should tackle. I even play online mmo games like Star Wars Galaxies and EverQuest 2 on it, with no problems.
i brought this computer 1 week ago and i love it. I only needed a tower and for this price u cant beat it. I strongly recommend if your on a budget and need a computer. If u not sure because of price you're sadly mistaken. Its fast cheap and can get the job done like a HP, Dell or whoever.
I have had this computer for almost a week now and I really like it. I was very happy with the price and the compacted design. Like a lot of people mention in their comments I was worried about upgrading the video card after I bought it. I went right to the source and contacted eMachines, they said it is in fact upgradable by PCI slot in the back, I am stoked and will be upgrading soon. The machine can be a little slow sometimes {like when I am using Photoshop and iTunes at the same time] but it isn't anything aggravating. The sideways dvd-rom is slightly annoying and can be loud at times [especially when erasing a dvd] but it isn't a big issue for me. The computer runs pretty fast and gives me a rating of 2.6 on Vistas' "Experience Index" which isn't the best but certainly not the worst I have heard about other folks having [my other eMachine has only 2.2] There are more than enough USB ports, which is really awesome because I use a lot of them. The 3 on front are better than awesome! I like that it came with Vista because other computers I looked at that had Vista were a lot more expensive with the same or less hard drive space. Speaking of the HD, there are two listed on my "computer", it shows, "OS" and "DATA", which I wasn't too happy about at first but now I really like being able to put different programs on different disk drives. I also like that the memory can be upgraded to 4gb and the cost of the ram for it is much cheaper than the kind my other computer takes. There wasn't much "bloatware" that came on the machine: Office trial, Netzero, Norton 360 trial, google, Earthlink and something about eBay. They were all easy to remove other than the Microsoft Office trial [wasn't installed correctly from factory if that makes any sense] I think it is a great computer for the price and recommend it to friends. In closing I want to mention for potential buyers, this isn't something that a person wanting to use as a gaming PC would be happy with, it can do more than everyday computing but not playing those high end video consuming games.
Our 9 year old compaq finally died. It was a pentium 1 900mhz. I didn't need a super powerful computer. I mainly use it to check email, surf the web and play a pool game. I had friends that had bought this brand and liked it. I figured for the price and overall reviews that it was what I was looking for. Got it home, unpacked and fired it up. Very impressed with my purchase. Now it is not a fast as a Ferrari, but then again I didn't pay for one either. Definitely what I was looking for. I read some of the other reviews saying that it was slow. Go from a 900mhz computer...this thing screams. I guess it all depends what you are looking for. I am happy with my purchase and would do it again. If you are on a budget and need a basic computer then get this one. You won't be disappointed. If you are a hardcore gamer then maybe you should look elsewhere. Just my 2cents.
This product comes with absolutely no free slots of any kind. We purchased it off the shelf at our local Wal-Mart where the sales associate swore up and down that the machine would come with at least 1 free PCI slot. It doesn't. If you're looking for something to run out of the box, this computer may suit you. However, this computer lacks even the slightest hint of expandability. The specs show many slots, but notice that none of those slots are available. I wish I'd known these facts before I was suckered into this purchase by a poorly informed salesperson.
I purchased this machine for my wife and kids. It was bought to use on the internet, but it does NOT have any PCI slots available to connect any devices to. Forget about wireless. It's very cheap and just like the saying goes... You get what you pay for!
Purchased computer 2wks ago. Attempted to turn on computer only to discover system error stating "boot failure insert disk." No software disks came in box. Called customer support which by the way is located in India and was informed system was programmed incorrectly and that a system disk would be sent to me within 5-7 dys. so I could reprogram the system. Wal-mart's refund policy states a 15 dy return on electronic hardware. Needless to say, I will be returning this computer back to the Walmart I purchased it from. If I wait for the disk my return time limit will be up at the store and I am not comfortable owning a computer that already has programming problems 2wks into ownership. Moral of the story, "You get what you pay for!"
This computer must be for people people who only look at pictures, surf the web and make documents because basically anything else ran on this machine will slow down. More importantly, Windows Vista should not have been bundled with this PC because it takes up more power than anything on the computer, which causes many slow downs from the start. Internet browsing is veryy verrry slow out of the box (even with firefox at times). You can count gaming, and multimedia out completely because the gpu is integrated and there are no PCI slots at all to upgrade, and the cpu is soooo slow that almost anything you do causes it to jump way up to 100% power usage. Sure it's cheap, but so is the quality of the product.
