I never thought that such a simple device could make such a difference in my daily life. But the opportunity to have a constantly warm beverage -- held to the PERFECT temperature -- puts a smile on my face all day, every day. I received my ember as a gift. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received. So thoughtful, in fact, that I married the man who gave it to me. :-)
The Ember Mug2 was a Christmas gift and accidently spilled coffee into the charging coaster two months latter , shorting out the coaster. I do consider this a design flaw that should be corrected by Ember. Perhaps including a lid for the cup in the package could be a stop-gap effort to avoiding this issue for future customers. Having said that, and after purchasing a replacement (not extra) Charging Coster and a cup lid, I continue to believe this was one of the best gifts I have ever received. I am a 77 years old enthusiastic photographer, spending most of my "home" time in my upstairs office/studio taking and processing images. Our coffee pot is in our downstairs kitchen - - thus the Ember is WONDERFULL AND OUTSTANDING!
This is the second coaster that I had to buy due to accidentally getting coffee on the coaster that caused the small little 'plugs' that stick up to become a problem. I love my ember, but not the poorly engineered coaster. Please try and work on a better means of contact between tje cup and the coaster. How about the same circular bands that are on the Ember being the the same means of contact with the coaster. Think about it please.
One pin failed the first time I used the charger. Managed to salvage the unit by soldering in a small bubble of solder and filing it down to match the woorking pin. I don't do pictures so cound not use warranty, I purchased a second charger coaster so I now have a spare. The retactable pins appear to be a weak spot in an otherwise well designed product.Love the system but not the service
Product is awesome. I use my ember mug and coaster daily and have been for the past 2 years. Since moving to work from home during the pandemic the ember mug has become an indispensable home office supply. The mug has been incredibly durable and easy to use and clean. The charging coaster is easy to use as well. Only complaint is the durability of the charging coaster. I'm on my 3rd in 2 years. With nearly daily use about 1x per year one of the charging pin springs breaks. It's really the only flaw. If this issue could be improved, I'd have absolutely no complaints.
Coaster seems to be very fragile. I have had three stop working because one of the pins has pushed in too far. I love the product! I love having hot coffee for hours but I hope I will not need to replace the charging coaster every month.
The 2-pin connectors are so fragile. Lucky to get 6-12 months use before the pins sink into the coaster and produce is useless. Prepare to replace often !!
I had to replace my charging coaster after only a couple years. The pogo pins started jamming and eventually failed to spring back, making the original charger unuseable. Then to make matters worse, the pricey replacement charger took WAY too long to arrive. I didn't get any regular updates on the shipping status and had to go search for information on my own. Overall this was not a stellar experience, neither in original product quality nor during the replacement process.
I own two coffee cups and one mug, so I have three charging base's I had to order two new charging bases because the charging contacts have broken (worn out) there is a little spring that will break. needs serious redesign so this part is easily replaced without purchasing an new base. The current chargers are not kind to the environment.
I have been an ember customer for years. Based on past experience, even with being absolutely babied, this charging coaster will last two to three years at most before one or both of the springs that keep the charging pins up against the charging rings of the mug fail, and it no longer reliably charges the mug. The lifespan could be even shorter if there is even a *trace* of moisture on the mug when you put it down on the coaster. I have had to replace my coaster three times over the years— the mug lasts WAY longer than this stupid thing. The design is such that one can't even disassemble the coaster to try and replace the faulty spring— it's an all-in-one piece (I know, I've tried). This coaster represents planned obsolescence at its "best." The mug might be decent quality, but this component is how Ember ensures you keep spending some money with them, as it simply does not last.
