You will have a hard time finding a better joystick for your SNES Classic. The unit's design is really great, it's an improved copy of Nintendo's old European 'Score Master' joystick. The unit is large enough for an adult to set it comfortably in their lap and play with both hands on, full immersion and no worries-- at the same time the unit is not too large and is accessible for kids. The buttons are laid out 3 over 3 and it's a solid design with everything nicely in reach and laid out logically. Each button has a corresponding switch to enable turbo functionality per button, there are no controls to modify turbo speed like on other Nintendo joysticks (Advantage), but that's okay by me-- the feature still works good even if the operation isn't always reliable (as it might be if you could variably change the turbo rate of fire). The colorful buttons are really charming in my opinion too. There's another really cool feature they don't even mention or picture here, but the joystick itself includes two different tops that you can choose between, a traditional spherical 'lollipop' top, or a more modern fighter style 'bat' top-- I love that they include both. It's quality hardware too, I can't emphasize that enough-- there's an 8' long cord which is twice as long as the controllers the SNES Classic is included with. It also includes a dongle to adapt Nintendo's connector over to USB in case you'd like to use it on your computer and control some games there. It also includes a nice quality code book that covers all the SNES titles that come included on the SNES Classic. At the time I'm writing this review Walmart is selling the joystick for less than $30 and I can promise you won't find a better deal. High quality, great value-- and a lot of fun to use!
For the price you get a decent moddable retro stick platform. You can easily mod it with 24mm screw on buttons and change the restrictor plate and actuator, or just replace the entire stick with a sanwa. overall i'm happy with it, after adding a little weight and new buttons and stick. The aesthetic is real bro
Works good for the most part. The joystick sticks in one direction or another sometimes.
Packaging was horrible, as joystick was protruding through the cardboard. First game tested, Amidar, didn't work well, as I could sense that the restrictor plate was set to "diagonals only" and not to "up, down, left, right", so I took it apart, and rotated the restrictor plate guide, a simple pull-and-twist, and put it all back together. Now it works pretty much normal. Bummer that it's really the only option for a wired joystick for the SNES mini.
