This is my 5th Escort radar detector. I have 3 vehicles and one in each. The 2 that broke were still working fine, but the holder broke even though we never take the detectors in or out of the vehicles. The cheap mechanism is plastic and just gives out. Escort should stand by their product.
I have the Max that I have had for several years that I use in one car and got tired of moving it from that car and putting it in the other car so I purchased the lower cost of the x80. The voice and sound is nothing close to the Max but gets the job done. I have trusted the Escort for years and looked at and considered the much lower priced units but my experience with the Max swayed me to purchase the x80. So now both of my Autos are protected. It did not come with the largest mounting as shown in the ad?
I purchased two X80's and one 360c, and they are outstanding radar detectors. The performance is incredible and the interface of both models is very easy to use (both on the actual unit and the application that goes with it). I feel much more confident on my long drives during the week knowing that the radar detectors I purchased from Escort will always alert us to potential speed traps. Thanks for the outstanding products produced by Escort.
Very nice radar detector. I purchased 2 X80 models for my wife and I a year ago and now that my daughter is driving, I placed an order and got one for her. Easy to use and operate. Although annoying, the alert of “Over Speed limit” works great and serving its purpose. Also like that you can turn off certain radar types to help eliminate those pesky false alarms. I recommend this detector.
The X80 works fine except the range is not as good as I hoped. If I had it to do over again I would order a different model. I would order the iXc model. Another problem i have with the X80 is i haven't been able to down load an owners manual. I would like to have one to explain the set up and programming better. Other than the things I just mentioned I am pleased with the detector.
I drive a lot and have found this RD to be effective in locating bogies enough to avoid financial consequences of my time-efficient driving. I also have a V1 that seems to be more sensitive, but then again, it's almost twice as expensive. For those complaining that it does not give enough notice with lasers, no radar detectors do.
I loved my 8500, but it was beginning to get just too many false alarms and Laser detection was going crazy, so I bought the X80. The Blue tooth connection is always iffy. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. It will disconnect on its own while I'm driving and will not reconnect. Having the local speed limit displayed is quite nice - when it works. Getting the voice alerts from both my phone "and" the detector is irksome, but having the distance to the alert displayed is nice - when it works. My biggest complaint is while using the Expert display. My 8500 was very good at discretely showing individual radar sources, and once I passed a given source, the strength of that signal immediately dropped. Expert mode worked exactly as advertised. Whenever X80 receives a strong signal it typically displays multiple sources even though there is only one. It is not uncommon for all three source displays to be maxed-out by a single radar source. Once I pass that source, it may take a quarter of mile before the display starts to indicate the signal strength drop. To be frankly honest, the Expert display mode is worthless for accurately letting you know that there are multiple radar sources. It might as well just keep bleeping away until you're passed them all.
Imagine my surprise to find that the the windshield attachment for the Passport unit I purchased absolutely will not allow the Passport to be mounted to the windshield! This is my 3rd Passport purchase and my previous two units were mounted without issue. I am seriously disappointed.
I've read a couple of earlier reviews with the same complaint. Two POP or Laser tickets for me with no warning whatsoever. And it is NOT mounted wrong. Stay away. I've had Escorts for well over 10 years and the current crop is mostly subpar and declining quality.
Since i have purchased this unit x80, I have received 2 laser tickets.. and nobody reported on escort live or the sensors did not pick up on the detector...when i talk to the customer service dept. that you have to wait a good 20-40 mins before somebody comes on the line to tell you you have it mounted wrong, which was a lie!! anyhow i am selling the unit because it is garbage !!!
