I haven't used this product yet but I'm sure it will come in handy in the spring. I have used hardware cloth similar to this in the past to close up spaces on my patio where starlings were trying to nest. I have also used it to protect young shrubs and trees from animal damage. This is a really versatile item to have around the house.
I got this Galvanized Steel Hardware Cloth from Expert Gardener, because I needed something to block off the openings of the railing that surrounds my deck. This steel hardware cloth was perfect for what I needed. The cloth that I used is 5ft long and 2ft high, and each mesh hole is 1/2in. I wanted to block the openings of my deck rails to prevent my grand-kids from dropping toys and other things off the deck. Another reason for the mesh cloth was to keep my small dogs from potentially falling through the rails when out on the deck. The nice feature with this particular mesh cloth is that I can see through it and still enjoy my view. The mesh openings are a perfect size because it doesn't take away from the look of the deck; you can hardly tell that it's there. Installation of the Expert Gardener mesh cloth was really simple; since I used it on my deck all I needed to do was staple it with a staple gun and its holding fine. On the packaging it shows other uses for the mesh hardware cloth such as: using it as a tree guard, soil sifting, and using it as a chimney guard.
"Expert Gardner Galvanized Steel Hardware Cloth" The name says it all. Very strong and rust resistant. So many possibilities for usage. Perfect for small animal cages, such as rabbits, etc. I want to cover my chimney opening to keep birds or little animlas out. The ventilation opening around the brick foundation, any little place wildlife can move into, this would be beneficial for. The small 1/2 inch openings in the mesh are just perfect for all uses. I wish I had, had this to put around my young apple trees. If you have a need now or just want to keep on hand for upcoming projects, I would recommend this hardware cloth. Im sure crafters would have many ideas also.
This will be used in the spring since we got 18" of snow on the ground. It will surround my flowers that every year gets trampled on by pets of neighbors. It is made sturdy and should hold up well. It wont rust since it's galvanized. I cant wait to use it and strongly recommend this to anyone that needs peotection for their plants
Expert Gardener Galvanized Steel Hardware Cloth (2' x 5' Roll, 1/2" mesh) is lightweight but still heavy duty and good quality. I definitely recommend donning a pair of gloves to protect your hands. Also, a good pair of wire cutter/snips, although I have read comments from others that they used scissors with no problem. Once I managed to get the hardware cloth unwrapped, I did not find it easy to work with. That may be due to my age and general weakness. Just be patient and show it who's the boss. This hardware cloth has multiple uses around the house, yard and garden. The applications are endless: animal containment/barrier, fencing (permanent or temporary), as well as craft projects. I plan on using some to block small animal access (think snakes) under my fence to protect me and my dogs. In my neck of the woods, there is a need to keep an eye out for rattlesnakes, copperheads and coral snakes. Overall, Expert Gardener Galvanized Steel Hardware Cloth is a great product. I only wish I would have gotten the 1/4" mesh opening instead of the 1/2".
This is : Expert Gardener Galvanized Steel Hardware Cloth, 24" x 5' Roll, This galvanized hardware cloth can be used for a variety of things - from protecting your chimney openings , to being used as a tree guard to protect your trees from animals, this Hardware cloth can also be used for soil sifting. This Expert Gardener Galvanized Steel Hardware Cloth, 24" x 5' Roll - is a really good size that can be cut to fit whatever it's being used for - it has 1/2 " mesh openings. I'd recommend this product for anyone who has a need for the purposes mentioned above.
I have a lot of projects to complete around my house and keeping drainage pipes free of debris was one of them. I am very glad to get this hardware cloth. I can cover the entrance to the pipe to keep the leaves out and prevent it from becoming clogged again. The holes in the mesh are 1/2 inch square which will prevent the large leaves from traveling into the drainage route while allowing the water to flow through. Other uses I have found for this cloth mesh is making a bin to place my vegetables to allow air flow underneath to prevent rot. I will be adding this to a potato bin that I am making. The size of this is 24 in. H x 5 ft L. This wire mesh is great for animal cages, small fences, home maintenance such as what I am doing with the drainage pipe as well as crafty DIY projects. You can use it for a variety of things in your garden. I can see using it to protect plants from rodents that may want to eat them or placing around trees to keep the mulch from washing away. I also found another great use of it. I attached it to the back of my deck stairs to keep my small dog from getting under them. It was easy to cut using my wire clippers. This wire mesh has been incredibly useful.
This galvanized steel hardware cloth is fairly versatile which makes using it for various projects ideal. My husband and I opted to cut it in sections to protect a few trees on our property from damage by wild animals. We also cut off a section to use as a base in our garden before adding rocks to it. I really liked how easy it was to cut the material and bend it to accommodate our projects.
I have used this particular product before, it works well for docile animal enclosures. It needs to be slightly buried to keep animals from pushing it up and escaping. Due to weather, have not had a chance to use the actual sample. I intend to use my cloth for fence repair, where a dog has dug under and displaced sections at a corner. Overlay the current fence, and use metal wire to secure the hardware cloth to the fence.
I really never understood why Galvanized Metal fence like material is called hardware cloth, but it is. This is a small gridded roll of the product that has many uses as a barrier, small home repairs and reinforcement as well as crafts and hobbies. We have a neighbor that just lets their cats wander where they please and they love our flower beds if we don't keep this or chicken wire over the mulch. It has a nice tight grid, is strong and protected from the elements through galvanization. I really recommend gloves when using this and even for opening the wire wrapped roll. It really is packaged tight and will quickly do a shift unwind but still in the coil shape. I didn't think it would unwind like it did but it grabbed the skin on the end of my middle finger actual trapping my finger until I figured a way to get it to go coiled back just a tad to release the skin. It didn't actually cut me but it was painful and in very sure it will bruise.
