I was looking for a knee pad similar to what volleyball players would use for our dance and when the pads arrived I was shocked. Although looking at the package, I assumed they would be too big, the pads covered a good portion of the knee without swallowing our legs. They can work either above or under clothing and the padding almost give you an airy feel. If you choose to wear them over pants, stay away from slippery materials as the pads will slide down your leg. The straps can be a little bothersome on bare skin to the back of the leg so adjust as you see fit. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with this product and are donating to men for handy work around our church.
The good thing about these pads is that they're very thick and protective. Unfortunately, they did slip when I used them. Admittedly, mud caving is probably beyond their functional design, but they slipped down my legs constantly. Maybe a larger leg circumference would have helped. I just couldn't get them tight enough to stay put. They'd probably be good for gardening, as they are thick and seem to be well manufactured.
