I bought 2 of these bowls because I feed feral cats and I just wanted them to always have water even in the freezing weather we have had. I didn't think about the birds who would also drink from them. They were a good price and they hold a lot of water. Great value.
I bought this bowl for my chickens to place in their run over the winter, so they would have fresh water and i wouldn't have to worry about it freezing. Works great for what it was designed for, thermostatically controlled and only draws 25 watts of power, and the water hasen't frozen, also made in the USA.
This bowl has been great!! We live in northern Michigan (about 50 miles from the Mighty Mac) and feed the feral cats (we have caught & had them fixed) that come around. It is hard for them to find water this time of the year. It works great and has not frozen at all. They come and drink from it multiple times per day. We had a bowl (not this brand) & it was only 25 watts & did not keep the water from freezing . I think the higher watts on this makes the difference.
This is a very large bowl and great for our dog that stays in an outdoor kennel. We just had 10 degree weather (-5 with windchill) and it did its job. The water still felt cold but I don't think it's meant to feel warm. It did not freeze like the water in our dog's other bowl that sat right next to it. Instructions say to not use on an extension cord, but that is very difficult considering the cord is not very long. We are using it on a 100 foot heavy duty orange extension cord and it's doing fine. We do plan to unplug when temperatures come back up. In no way would I use it on a regular extension cord. This was a great value considering the blue bowls offered by this same company that don't hold as much water and cost more.
I've been using this brand of heated water bowls for years. I usually store them away during the summer so that the sun doesn't make the plastic brittle. I did replace one this year that was several years old but its twin continued to work through this past winter. I use them for my dogs, cat and chickens.
I purchased these bowls to provide unfrozen food to the feral cats on the farm, and they are working great. All the food is getting eaten, and it gives me the peace of mind that the food is not frozen. I know it's for water, but the cats will eat the snow for water.
Works great , kept water from freezing in 10 degree weather . My feral cat, raccoons , opossums , birds ,and any other outdoor critters that needed a drink during the hard freeze . It made life easier for me . No more busting ice or toting frozen water bowls inside to thaw .
First time purchase of heated water bowl, didn't even know there was such a thing, but the arrival of feral cats forced investigation. This product is perfect size and has worked, so far, in below freezing temperatures. No more frozen bowls to deal with. Very pleased with price and quality. Will be purchasing additional bowls to use for food.
Using the "pet" bowl on my deck to supply water for wild birds. It's working well so far down to 18 degrees. The birds drink from it regularly. We'll see how it will last and keep the water liquid when it gets to below zero in late winter.
This does the trick. Purchased to put out on our back deck so the squirrels and birds would have liquid water when everything else started to turn to ice. It's still pretty new and they are unsure what it is or whether or not to use it, but it is effectively keeping the water from freezing. Good capacity, lightweight. Easy to fill and empty.
