I did a lot of research on shredders and came down to one conclusion, you obviously can't make everybody happy. I used Amazon and a few big box retailers for reviews and it came down to this shredder and one other which I have since forgotten. The two shredders had the most well rounded performance per the reviews. I actually had chosen the other one, but when it got down to it, it was just too much money after buying the extended warranty and lubrication oil ($200). The Fellowes DS-3 was about $40 cheaper on Amazon (around $120 I think), one last quick shopping search showed that Walmart had it for $70! Generally, I like to buy from Amazon and I am not a huge fan of Walmart, but I could not pass this up. The 2 year warranty was a good deal as well. All in all, I am very happy with the shredder. It is not really quiet, but it is MUCH quieter than my last one. It also shuts down quickly my last one would continue running for about 10 seconds after shredding had completed. As for power, mine works fine, I haven't totally pushed it, but swallowed a couple of envelopes with single folded sheets no problem. Most reviews I saw (for every shredder I reviewed) had one person saying it did 14 pages all day and the next guy saying it had lack of power, so I wouldn't put too much on that when you review yourself, I'm happy with mine. It has a nice safety feature where if you touch the chrome area near the shredder slot, it will shut down immediately. My only complaint is that the warning light is very bright and flashes continuously when not in use. It's actually a blessing in disguise as I now shut the power off every time to get rid of it, which I didn't with my old one. So a slight annoyance, but ultimately better for the environment and my pocket book. Great for home use. Could work just fine in an office, but may be a bit loud for some (say right next to a phone operator). But if you want whisper quiet, plan on spending some bucks, anything under $200 is going to make some noise.
Heavy lid lifts off easily with attached strap. Easy to see when it is full. Easy to empty right into a large garbage bag. Just the right size for an apartment. Not too big and not too small. I really put it to the test when I shredded lots of stored paperwork. Wal-Mart's sale price was way less then other sites. I also purchased a new service plan which is very inexpensive and easy to redeem if your shredder stops working as my previous one did because I did not read the instructions to oil it. It was still under warranty with Walmart's service plan and easy to redeem and I had a new shredder in 3 days at my doorstep free deliver. I also ordered The Fellows Oil which I put on the inside of a envelope and put through the shredder each time it is emptied. Walmart's price for the oil is really good also. Easy, fast delivery and I didn't have to shop in the store and drag everything home.
I read many reviews and was not sure which shredder to order, one review talked about how it was broken upon shipment, noisy and larger than expected. Using my own better judgment, I ordered the DS-3 and was completely satisfied. I immediately examined the product and found no flaws or broken areas, then slid in a sheet of paper and it was not noisy. It fits perfectly in the space I have beside my desk and I love it. I did purchase the oil that was recommended and hope to keep my shredder around for many years!
I bought this for my down sydrome sister to use. I had seen it on Offiice Depot's site and was delighted to find it at Wal-Mart at a 25% cheaper cost. It is easy for her to use and the safety features are a plus.
One tough little shredder, living up to its Bulldog logo! I must admit we were partially drawn to the Fellowes brand because we have an Engish Bulldog! Can't say owners, because he certainly owns us! He's tough as nails & so is this little shredder! Nice in appearance & so far has worked flawlessly & is twice as quiet as our last shredder! I would recommend this shredder to anyone! Fellowes rules!!
It has only been three days since I have started using it, but it is very durable and is one of the first shredders that does actual shred up to the amount it claims. The blade and motor unit have a well designed and durable encasement. The finger guard works very well as it has actually kicked off a couple of times already for me. The overall style and functionality work very well into the office atmosphere and the larger capacity bin will deliver the benefit of less trips to recycling. The price was right although I did consider purchasing another model because of the price, but after reviewing the product guide and rankings by others who already own on
Very pleased with with this Fellowes DS-3 10-Sheet Cross Cut Shredder. I had a small shredder a few years ago and it was worthless. Did a lot of research to find a shredder that was a cross cut and could handle thicker paper. This shredder does all that. Great safety features also. on off button in back and has a reverse on it . Strong motor. Not for cardboard
Great shredder, but it is better if you put in 5 sheets at most at a time, not the 10 sheets - otherwise it slows dramatically. Can do a lot of shredding -- be sure to put the oil on the teeth as recommended at end of each bucket load. Doesn't jam -- love that!
Pros:Has useful safety feature, well designed. Cons: Loud, not too powerful for multiple pages shredding, heavy. Hard to tell if it's reliable. I purchased a 2 year service contract for the peace of mind.
I ordered this shredder from Walmart's Site to Store option. When I got it home I discovered that the plastic viewing area was cracked. I also ordered a small table. When I opened it one of the legs was broken. Both went back to the store and I received a full refund.
