Everyone in our house sleeps with noise machines or box fans. I am always worried I won't hear a smoke alarm going off at the opposite end of our house. Therefore, we wanted smoke alarms that would all go off at the same time. However, hard wiring new alarms was not a project we wanted to tackle right now. When my husband found these wireless alarms, we knew it was the way to go. We bought 2 sets (4 alarms total). All 4 alarms sync with each other. Each set comes with a set of paper instructions and an instructional dvd. The dvd contains fire safety tips as well as how to program the alarms. I skipped ahead to the actual instruction and it took all of 5 minutes to set up and sync. Then you just install them like regular battery operated smoke alarms. It is suggested you test them weekly. I assume this is to make sure they still sync with each other properly. We have one alarm at one end of the house near the garage and utility room. We put the remaining 3 alarms at the other end of the house-one in each bedroom. The distance between them doesn't cause a problem. The voice option is a little scary sounding. However, the 'voice' tells you exactly which alarm is detecting smoke. I would highly recommend these alarms. They seem pricey, but it was worth it to us to skip the hard wiring. Also, you can always add and sync more alarms later.
When I needed to replace the existing smoke detectors in my home, I became interested in interconnected models for increased safety. This is a common feature in wired models but my house is not currently wired for these types of detectors. I was surprised at the limited options for battery powered wireless interconnected detectors given that this option is now recommended by most fire departments and even by many building codes. The few common models that I found all included a lot of unnecessary features such as Internet connectivity and had a correspondingly high price tag. I found the First Alert model on Walmart's site and tried four of them. They are easy to set up and seem to meet my needs perfectly without breaking the bank. I will order more soon.
Linking the alarms really makes the family feel secure, there is no fear of not hearing the alarm because its in the basement and we are asleep. It rings on all floors and announces where the fire has started.
I purchased to use with my Insteon hub and smoke bridge to not only communicate with each other, but also with my phone though an app. Works great. Alerts when I am not at home, time to get home and save the pets or call 911.
These smoke detectors are a great value. I have seen similar ones for thousands of dollars more. I like how the alarm is loud on these. Another nice feature is when one goes off they all go off.
This product is going into my mothers home. The wireless feature is exactly what I was l looking for. The voice feature with hazard and location make this product the best on the market. The DVD instructions will make the installation very easy. Thanks to First Alert and Walmart.com. I cannot say enough good about this whole transaction.
Product was fairly easy to set up after reading directions. The two detectors linked to each-other and work great in my house. I have one in the basement and the other in my kitchen. I plan on replacing the rest of the detectors in my house two at a time until all 10 are replaced. This was shipped from walmart in a plastic envelope with no padding or wrapping at all. the box inside was destroyed and everything was loose in the bag. I was amazed to find everything worked.
Loud, I now feel safe, announces where the smoke is on every device.
The only thing that could make these smoke alarms better would be if they were both ionization and photo electric in one unit plus heat sensing. You really shouldn't be without these detectors the photo electric type that is.
I ordered two and they paired up as described so I ordered two more. They paired up with the first two and work well. I only with they had more pre-recorded locations. They should at least add "Garage", maybe "Furnace Room"
