Unlike the rotating-drum feeders, this one allows you to feed the small amounts of food needed for a 10 gallon tank with 12 small fish in it. It also allows you to use any food type or mix of food types - say flakes and sinking pellets. The trouble with the rotating-drum-styles - (I bought one a week ago, used it and have 3 dead fish as a result) - is that to supply only a small amount of feed you need to reduce the gap on the door so small that it blocks even with micro-food. Open the door more so it doesn't block and way too much food is dispensed.....which can cause some fish to over-eat, bloat and die. Also you can't mix foods because they separate in the drum and you have no control over what is fed plus flake and lerger granules will block the feed opening.Downside to this one? - you have to prepare each meal by adding food to an individual division so it takes more time to set up....but the alternative is swamping you tank with food using a rotating drum style.
It was a little tricky to set. The pins were a bit difficult to remove and the timing is a bit off. However, I really like this feeder for feeding my pleco while we are away. No other feeders hold pleco wafers. I use the Fluval Bug Bite wafers and they fit in the compartments perfectly.
It works great for being away a couple days at a time.
Great timed feeder, only slight issue is it only does well with granular foods. Doesn't really work with flaked foods.
It has upsides and down sides. It works... and you can feed a mix of foods up to four time a day. Keep in mind, the more feedings, the fewer days. that's the upside. Now for the downsides, the circle part that actually holds the food, can VERY easily be dislodged with the slightest touch, then you have to dump it out and start over putting the right amount and mix into the slots. I got the hang of it on the third attempt. The support clamps don't work for my aquarium, so had to put some hot glue on the sloped tank cover to rest the feeder legs against, so it will stay in place over the opening. Hopefully no one will bump it while I'm away. I could just hot glue it down, but it will have to come off for a battery change. Bottom line, I like it. But it is a little bit of a pain.
I bought 2 units to feed fish while on vacation. I programmed them, as per instructions to feed 2x in 24 hrs...so it should have emptied 8 of the 20 sections. When I returned after 4 days only 1 section was still filled. The box said it feeds every 2 hours because that is " natural " feeding cycle for fish, but not in the instructions.
they tell you its two day shipping, then the day before you are to receive it they tell you that there is a 3 day delay. every time I order from Walmart there is a 2 to three day delay. that being said i love the P7000 fish feeder
very frustrated that it stopped working so quickly!!
I bought this to feed my koi fish while on vacation , it's almost impossible to get the time set there are TO many steps then you have to set feed time and how much you want them feed . By the time you think you have it figured out the time set is gone and you have to start all over. Don't waste your time or money. It's worth spending a little more to prevent you from throughing it against the wall...
very small, not as advert.
