About 5 minutes after recieving our new 805 meter we were taking readings. Not only is it easy to use (by almost anyone) it works extremely well. It's another Fluke tool/meter that will keep having you find more uses for the longer you use it. Every maintenace staff should have one. Bruce
I got this vibration meter to use at work in a manufacturing facility. We use it to measure the vibration of large fan motors and grinding motors. We input readings to our own spreadsheet and chart to track over time. When bearings get bad the vibration increases and we know it is time to get replacements in house before they fail. Works good, consistent readings, and reading can be saved in the on-board memory with different settings for reading the different types of tooling.
We bought the Fluke 805FC to monitor and trend rotating equipment (pumps, fans, etc) in our facility. The device does a great job of taking consistent measurements and providing trend-able, actionable information in a user friendly package. We use a host of Fluke tools and this one is just as reliable as the others. It is also very easy to use and training my technicians on how to operate it was very easy. The software package on this device leaves alot to be desired. You have to set up all of your equipment in the device itself instead of in the Fluke Connect app or in a spreadsheet which is quite cumbersome if you have multiple assets. You cannot set up assets with multiple machine configurations in the same setup (ie, motor to gearbox to compressor.) If you remove the batteries, you lose all saved data including the setups and you will have to do all of this over again. Trending in the app is pretty good but could be better. You also cannot edit a setup so if you make a mistake, you will need to delete the entire setup and start over again. Not ideal. If Fluke could work out some of these bugs and make this more setup friendly, I believe they could sell alot more of these. I hope there are updates in the future to rectify some of these issues.
Technically it is excellent equipment - useful, accurate, providing sufficient information. The firmware, however, still needs some improvements. First of all, I find it at least annoying to attach a type to the whole 1st level ID. Quite often you would like to check whole production lines, or complicated machines with multiple motor types. The current design makes such measures at least annoying. I also find it annoying, that whenever you modify the name / type of the first level ID, all data within it is lost. Fluke may have put more effort here. Also when you wish to delete a second level ID, you cannot. You can only delete the whole group. Fluke missed that option too. Finally there could be some basic software to edit all settings and the database from PC level. It is often annoying to input the whole database through the device. To sum up, technically it is a good device, but the interface is poor.
We purchased the 805 FC as part of our preventive maintenance improvement initiative. Unplanned downtime due to bearing and motor failures had become an increasing problem within our growing organization. The 805 FC has allowed us to establish baseline vibration readings on all of our systems. The wireless connection to the phone application makes data capture and tracking very simple an efficient. This data will be invaluable in forecasting and preventing unplanned downtime in production.
Could you tell me if the vibration meter include the octava analysis programa (band frequency) for vibration aplication?
Could you tell me if the Fluke-805 meter's date/time is meant to reset everytime you power down the device off and power it back on?
This was purchased about six months ago to use in a papermill for pumps and motors in our reliability program. The major complaint is the same as what others have found. 1. The route setup is a major pain, everything has to be manually created with just the buttons on the unit. There is no way to set up the route and download to the unit. 2. Changing the batteries cause you to lose all stored data and has several times deleted all the routes that were painstakingly created. This would be a much more user-friendly tool if these items could be fixed.
We have been using this devices since 2016. we have had to replace a device every two years due to issues with the battery, software on the device, wear and tear and overall difficulty of inputting and collecting information on the device. Setup of the functions on the device is difficult and long, with the base model you cannot delete items saved to the device without deleting all information into the device (you can delete specific measurements on the device, more on this later.). If you are using the pressure sensor portion of the device it will commonly take 2 minutes to download information. saving information is difficult due to how the menu is setup. as you save more information to the device the slower it gets making it less than ideal if you have to trend multiple motors. if you create a list by accident, you cannot delete that specific list without permanently deleting everything on the device. if maintenance is required due to wear and tear it has to be sent to the United States for repairs and calibration leaving us without a device to use for 2 months at a time. most of the repair costs are more than the device and we just have to buy a brand-new device! Device is not accurate using the pen when comparing it to a external magnetic sensor. Batteries regularly move when the pen is being used causing the device to die mid read Batteries have to be replaced on a monthly basis if alkaline and every 3 months if lithium.
To be able to graph trends on a machine, you must give the machine a name, and all of the read points must also have their own name for that machine. I have hundreds of these to do, and it is incredibly difficult to enter on this meter. Fluke does not have any support software to interface computer entry. The meter makes quality reads, but the software has locked up 4 times in two days.
