We use the FoodSaver bags exclusively to repackage our meats for home use and to put homemade beef jerky in that my husband sells. We love that we can individualize the size of the bags for a specific application. I have used them for packing items in my suitcase, as well. They are the best bags around, in my opinion. I even managed to get a great deal on them ! :-)
These bags fit the food saver I have. They are more economical as one can make any size package of food and not be restricted to bags of one size. I've used them for 4 years and have not had one bag leak and the food doesn't develop frost if it's vacuum packed correctly.
Taking a little time to research how to work this sealing solution after 15 years of sealing success, I cannot imagine stumbling along without one. Food cannot last nearly as long in storage and stay fresh without FoodSaver in the kitchen. Add up the spoilage you've tossed over the years, and you can easily justify this sealing system.
I received my food saver this past Christmas as a gift. I absolutely love it and use it ALL the time. All of the food I have put in the freezer after using the food saver never suffer from the dreaded frost which leads to freezer burn. I also use the zip bags for items such as cheese and other leftovers. I have since purchased the container to quick marinate and it works very well also. Highly recommend! I bought the expandable bags because I freeze a lot of large items, and I'm really impressed with them. I will definitely order them again.
Foodsaver and the Foodsaver bags are awesome! They have saved me so much money. I place all left overs in the bags and can have a meal months later without freezer burn. I use the bags for everything including a whole bundt cake. When I served it months later, people raved about the freshness.
These were the perfect size for my large chickens. The only reason I give it 4* is that you have to be extra careful when sealing meat with bones as the bags may end up with microscopic holes in them as you move them in the freezer. This makes the formation of ice particles within the bag and onto the meat. Otherwise they are perfect.
I used the bag to marinade a leg of lamb over night. I followed the directions to seal the bag and took care to ensure the folds at the sealing point were well aligned only to have the bag leak air. Rather than start over and waste the bag I folded it the best I could and left it to marinade. Definitely not as ideal as an air tight seal. Not sure I'd purchase this item again or recommend it to a friend. Disappointed it cannot be used as an oven baking bag. maximum 195F baking temp not posted on the box. I've used other Foodsaver Rolls and they worked great! Not this one.
This is the second time I've bought this product. There are a few problems: 1) difficult to use. I need at least two pairs of hands to get the bag positioned. It helps to have lots of extra bag but it's still really awkward for one person. 2) I'd say 50% of the bags loose their seal. 3) The bags puncture easily.
Went through 5 rolls and couldn't get any of them to hold for more than 3 weeks. Tired of having to rebag and reseal. They seal up fine at first but after a few weeks they loose there vacuum and have to be removed and redone. Didn't matter if they are on the shelf or fridge or freezer. Pies, cakes, rice, deer meat, turkeys, chickens all did the same thing, seal up fine at first and then in a couple of weeks it releases its vacuum. Worthless. Everything i use them for has to be redone in a couple of weeks.
