Have not received feedback yet from my son who is in Afganestan, but this is the model he requested. Said his friends have this and is much better than the junk they are receiving from Washington. Hope this helps to keep my son alive so someday soon he can bring it home to have fun with.
I already owned one of these units that I purchashed over 4 years ago and it broke beyond repair so I ordered another. It's the same unit but it does so much more, it's like a totally differant unit. I'm very pleased with both the unit and the very fast shipping and delivery. It works so good I've purchased accesories for it to use it on all my outdoor toys(hunting,on my 3 wheeler, on my boat, and in my truck). I'll ware this one out long before it gets broken. GREAT product. I use Garmin only on my boat and both are great and never let me down. The new hunting & fishing computer and sun/moon phase are the best and the unit locks on to more sat. and gets me closer readings and faster than the older model. The trip page is also new and great that it lets you control what readings are shown and recorded. I just can't tell you what to buy but if your looking for a really good gps unit at a reasonable price than this is the unit for you. And water proof too.
Great product with the simplicity to create and store waypoints. Small, lightweight, and easy to use are some of the useful features. This product is designed to mark your starting point and then get you back to that - this can be stored/saved in a couple ways. Great for in the boat to mark and locate fishing spots or in the woods to mark and locate treestands, etc.... Look at all Garmin gps models to determine which features you really need based on how you are going to use it - the more it can do, usually the more complicated it is - do you want to carry the manual with you everytime you use it?
I love this product! I had one similar to this Garmin before, but this is the updated version. It gives me the coordinates that I need to mark fishing spots in the lake and always gets me back to the marina. It will tell me the recommended fishing times, the sunrise and sunset hours and many other facts that are helpful out there on the lake.
I'm an avid outdoors person, boating, camping, hiking, and up untill now resisted using anything electronic to guide me on my trips. The low price and impressive list of features finally convinced me to break down and buy this unit, and I am very glad I did. Right out of the box I found the device easy to use and the instruction booklet easy to follow, and when I needed a function explained, I called the toll free Garmin customer service number and spoke with a real life person working right here in the good old U.S.A. The H model doesn't have any map features, which I don't miss, but navigates using GPS coordinates to get you where you want to go, and has tracking and waypoint marking features anybody would find useful, on land or on the water. I've used it to find offshore fishing spots, which worked flawlessly, and have used it to navigate a ten mile hike to a remote campsite. It's small enough to take anywhere, easy to use, and does more to help navigate with confidence than I ever could have expected. I'm sorry I waited so long to get one.
This is a really good "basic" GPS. It's High Sensitivity really works great. Sometimes it's even faster at acquiring a signal than my Garmin Etrex Vista HCx. It even works great indoors, which some other basic models do not. I really enjoy how easy it is to use. I have tested it against my other Garmin mentioned above and it passed with flying colors. When I downloaded each track from both units onto my mapsource program they were almost identical. The trip computer kept accurate readings as well. This will be a great unit to use in the class I will be teaching this year to a group of Senior High Homeschool students. I will be teaching a class on Educaching to them where a basic GPS is essential. There are only a few problems I see with this unit. 1. You cannot download maps onto it. But then again maps are not that important for the class I am teaching. 2. It is also not really Geocaching friendly, but it does work for finding them. If you enter the cache cords it will get you close to the cache. It just does not keep track of your finds. 3. It also does not come with a cable to connect it to your PC. When you do purchase the cable you also have to purchase an adapter for that in order for it to connect to the PC. All in all it works great. It may not have all of the bells and whistles as the more expensive models, but it is well worth the money. I highly recommend this unit to all who need a basic GPS, or to all beginning Geocachers. You cannot beat the price for what you are getting.
I bought the ETrex to help me fish. I am a commercial fisherman and need to remember where I put out my hoop nets. This was just the ticket! It is so easy to use that even I after 10 minutes could work it. I have seen some GPS that take a rocket scientist to operate them. The price was low compared to many others and thar along with the fact it is waterproof is the reason I bought it. I am sure glad I did!!
I purchased two of these for my 12 and 13 years old boys. They function very well, but are a little difficult to learn how to use. The instructions are limited at best. This GPS unit would benefit greatly from a tutorial CD. My sons and I learned more about how to use the unit by just choosing what we wanted to do and then with the instructions and trial and error go through the unit menu and pages until we found what we needed. But I did find that the units do everything you need them to do, to navigate a planned coarse or navigate through the woods and back. It is definitely technology that will get the kids up away from the video games and back outside again!
Saw this on Thanksgiving day for a very low price and ordered it, have used it in very dense woods in the dark going to tree stand and it led me right there.
Was hard to program the cordinates. But for the price, was reasonable buy.
