I returned three handheld GPS before arriving at this one. One was a Magellan that was twice as much. This is a great GPS, that even includes an electronic compass. I mainly purchased it to add European maps for a trip I am planning. It seems to work fine. If I had to choose a issue, it wouldnt' be bad if it was a little faster, but I cannot really complain with 2GB worth of maps. I could probally go up on the class of the MicroSD card as well. Overall though, good purchase.
After buying this product and ordering the topo map download it has been an excellent tool for hunting. I have found it to be a very simple device to operate. A friend had the metroguide download , I downloaded it too. This enabled me to use it to navigate cities and find delivery destinations. I am an independent trucker
Excellent unit. Has all the features I need for finding GEO Caches. Have found no problems or concerns with my new Garmin eTrex Summit HC.
I am very pleased with the GPS unit. I bought it to use on hunting trips and to manage areas on my hunting club. It is very simple to use and I love the USB connection so that I can upload to maps such as Google Earth. I would recommend this unit to anyone!!!
I recently purchased this GPS for a trip to Alaska and the Appalachian Trail after my Colorado broke. I am an avid outdoors man. This GPS has worked great. Worked well everywhere including in dense forest. No problems what so ever.
The Garmin Summit is the most unbelievable product I have ever purchased. And I am not easily impressed. Magical, bordering on the occult. I returned a Garmin Gps and a Magellan GPS before I got to the Garmin Summit. The altimeter and the electronic compass are well worth the extra $50. Try it, you will buy it. I will never be lost in the forest again. BQ PS A refund on the Walmart extended warrantee on my previous GPS, a Magellan, enabled me to buy the Garmin Summit. Don't leave home with out one. I wanted a GPS with a high sensitive receiver to work in the woods. This unit will lock on in my house, in about 10 seconds. It has a good map built into the unit and the software does not allow you to add details from this cd. Must be purchased seperately. You really need to sit down and read and understand all the features to make it easier to use. Really nice product for the price.
I didn't know ahead though that the maps that come with it are not the city maps for the US, so you will have to buy a separate CD for that (another $99)
I have spent 5 uninterupted hours attempting to figure this thing out. NO luck. I am fairly computer literate...but this has kicked me. I think too it may not be operating properly. It seems to get stuck on one screen and I have to turn it off and back on.
I am unhappy to discover that in order to put detailed maps on my Summit, I must purchase a $116.00 map program for my computer. I was unaware that I could not download maps, or that the included map was so vague that the only road near my house is an interstate. Another feature I don't like is that I have to bring up the backlight feature from a menu and increase the backlight every time I turn the unit on, because it always resets back to zero. I am returning the unit to Wal Mart.
